1. The heavens at your command bring joy and salvation,
So your every age is festive occasions and celebrations.

١. سَما بِأمْرِك إِسْعادٌ وإِنْجادُ
فكُل دَهْرِكَ أَعْراسٌ وأعْيَادُ

2. What joy in Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and their delight!
For them familiar habits at the two Eids are known.

٢. ما بَهْجَةُ الفِطْرِ والأضْحَى وبَهجَته
لها شُفوفٌ عَلى العِيدَيْنِ مُعْتادُ

3. And how could man not swell with pride
When good news recurs and accumulates?

٣. وكيفَ لا تَتَردّى البشرَ غُرّتُهُ
وللْبَشائِرِ تَكرار وتَعْدادُ

4. Your claim of empowered victory is truthful.
From your conquests witnesses for the horizons abound.

٤. دَعْوَى نجادك في التمكينِ صادِقَةٌ
ومِنْ فُتوحِكَ للآفاقِ أشْهادُ

5. No wonder that the world casts its reins
To you, for the revolving heavens are controlled.

٥. لا غَرْوَ أن تُلْقِيَ الدُّنيا مَقادَتَها
إليكَ فالفَلَك الدّوّار مُنْقادُ

6. Can the nights against you be wholesome?
From you, by God's will, come decrees and revenues.

٦. وَهل تَرُدّ الليالي عَنْكَ صَالِحَةً
ومِنكَ في اللّهِ إصدار وإيرادُ

7. The status of kings is diminished by their kingship,
While you are adorned and increase through it.

٧. شَأنُ المُلوكِ انتِقاصٌ شَانَ مُلْكَهُمُ
وأنتَ مِمّا بِهِ تَزْدان تَزْدادُ

8. You have become a refuge for righteousness and a ruin for misguidance,
So both their parties are fully shackled and bound.

٨. أصْبَحتَ لِلرّشد رَدءاً والضلال رَدىً
فَمِلءُ حزبَيهِما صَفدٌ وَإِصفادُ

9. When you established the oneness of God victorious,
The seat of the corporealists was no longer endowed.

٩. لَمّا أقَمتَ صَغا التّوْحيد مُنْتَصِراً
لَمْ يَعْدُ صاغيةَ التّجسيمِ إقْعادُ

10. You extinguished what they kindled, refuting their beliefs.
Extinguishing and kindling are clearly distinct.

١٠. أطفأتَ ما أوْقَدوا نَقضاً لِما اعتَقَدوا
لَقَد تَبَايَن إطفاء وإيْقادُ

11. They were many pebbles until you subjugated them,
So shattered were they, diminished and ceased to be.

١١. كانوا الحَصى كَثرَةً حَتى نهَدْتَ لَهُم
فَشَدّ ما انقَرَضوا حصاً وما بادوا

12. The leader of guidance, his birth brings joy to religion and world,
His birth for dew, and for war, a birth.

١٢. لِيَهْنئ الدّينَ والدُّنيا إِمامُ هُدىً
ميلادُهُ للنّدى والبَأسُ ميلادُ

13. The rituals of God are in the hands of a king
Whose helpers are angels and endless aid.

١٣. شَعائِرُ اللّهِ مِنْهُ في يَدَيْ مَلِكٍ
لَهُ المَلائِكُ أَعوانٌ وَأَمْدادُ

14. He directs their protection however they be desecrated
According to his will, a watcher and intender.

١٤. يُديرُ في حِفظِها ما تُسْتَبَاحُ بِه
وفْقَ الإرادَةِ مُرّاقٌ وَمُرّادُ

15. When he invades, the dignified earth trembles because of them,
Invaders who chase down deer in the valleys.

١٥. إِذا غَزا تَرْجف الأرْض الوقورُ بِهِمْ
غُزّى وتُلحِقُ بالقيعَانِ أَطْوَادُ

16. From every rugged terrain the angry roar,
Like an enraged sea stirred to surge and seethe.

١٦. من كُلِّ ذي لَجبٍ في صَوْلِ ذي غضَبٍ
كالبحرِ يُغريهِ بالإزْبادِ إِزْبادُ

17. If not for my inadequate time to praise him,
I would think the eagles race to aid him.

١٧. لَولا إجالَة لَحظي في مناقبِهِ
أنكرت أن تركضَ العقبانَ آسادُ

18. Either the steeds or the ships are their horses,
Neither tents nor staffs do they leave behind.

١٨. إِمّا الجِيَادُ وإمّا الفُلكُ أفرسهم
لَيستْ تُعطّل ألْبادٌ وأعْوادُ

19. They roused resolves raging in battle,
While the swords are breaks and strikes.

١٩. صَحّوا عزَائِمَ في الهَيْجاءِ ماضية
والسّمْهَرِيّةُ أكْسَارٌ وأَقْصَادُ

20. Upon them, to guide, is an oath to never
Be touched, though they struggle the infidels with all might.

٢٠. عَلَيْهِم لِلْهُدى ألا يَمَسّهُمُ
إذا هُمُ جَاهَدُوا الكُفّارَ إِجهادُ

21. They persist not in comforts out of luxury,
Nor in eternities if oblivion it would be.

٢١. لا يُخلِدونَ إلى الرّاحاتِ من تَرَفٍ
ولا خُلُودَ إذا ما كانَ إِخْلادُ

22. They are humble though lofty are their abodes,
So they are ransackers, hunters, and ascetics.

٢٢. تَواضَعوا والثرَيّا من منازلِهِمْ
فهُم جَحَاجِحَةٌ صِيد وزُهَّادُ

23. One fervent for truth leads them in God's pastures,
To abolish skepticism or idolatry.

٢٣. يَقودُهُم في مراضِي اللّهِ مرتمضٌ
للحَق أَو يَمحو الإلحَادَ إِلحادُ

24. While the heedless are granted respite they are pleased with,
His share from you is wakefulness beneath the night.

٢٤. حَظُّ اللواحِظ تَهجاعٌ تَقَرُّ بِهِ
وَحَظُّهُ مِنْكَ تَحتَ الليْلِ تَسْهادُ

25. His sanctified thoughts forever loyal
In what he plans are blame and redemption.

٢٥. لِفِكرِهِ القُدُسِيِّ المُنتَمى أبَداً
فيما يُدَبِّرُ إِتهامٌ وإِنْجادُ

26. As if his famed name across horizons
Of West and East are settings and risings.

٢٦. كَأنّه صِيتُه السيّارُ في أفُقَي
غَرْبٍ وَشَرْق فَتَأويبٌ وإِسْآدُ

27. The Indian subcontinent was not devoid of him,
When bodies are devoid of souls and lives.

٢٧. لَم يَخلُ بالهندُوَانِياتِ مرْتَبِئاً
إِذا تَخَلّتْ عَن الأَرواحِ أَجْسَادُ

28. The flowers of his virtues, the fragrance of his ranks,
For them are loyalty and dispatch to the meteors.

٢٨. زُهْرٌ مَنَاقِبُه شُمّ مَرَاتِبُهُ
لَها عَلى الشهْبِ إيفاءٌ وإيفَادُ

29. His adherence to noble fasts in Ramadan is tied,
So days and nights are litanies and routine devotions.

٢٩. قِيَامُهُ بالصِّيامِ السرْدِ مُرتَبِطٌ
فَاليَوْمُ وَالليْلُ أذْكارٌ وأَوْرادُ

30. As for life, nothing of its purity is marred,
It is beautified by John, so fascination and allurement.

٣٠. أمّا الحياةُ فَما في صَفْوِها كَدَرٌ
طابَتْ بِيَحيَى فإرْغَابٌ وإرْغادُ

31. Reform encompassed the worlds through his state,
His rulings curbed extravagance and corruption.

٣١. عَمّ العَوالِمَ إِصْلاحٌ لِدَوْلَتِه
حِدْتَانَ مَا عَمّ إِسْراف وإِفْسادُ

32. He brought gardens to life through it, thriving,
With lamps lit, visitors and people flowing.

٣٢. آضَتْ جِناناً بهِ الأرْجاءُ نَاضِرَةً
عَلى إِضَاء فَوُرّاد وَرُوّادُ

33. A bulbul sings joyfully atop a cypress in them
With what it sprinkled from between the misguided throng.

٣٣. يَشْدو عَلى السَّرْوِ فيها بُلْبُلٌ غَرِدٌ
بِما زَقا من خِلالِ الضّال فَيّادُ

34. The branches bend from the blows of the gentle breeze, when
It flows weakly, so swaying and bending.

٣٤. وتَعْطِفُ القُضْبَ هبّاتُ النَسيمِ إِذا
يَسْري عَليلاً فَمَيّاس وَمَيّادُ

35. Such is happiness facilitated for the fortunate,
None equals the empowered upright in fortune.

٣٥. كَذا السّعادَة لِلْيُسْرَى مُيَسِّرَة
فَلا عَدا القائِمَ المَيْمونَ إِسْعادُ

36. His authority breached norms so strangers and adversaries
United around advisers and counts.

٣٦. سُلطانُهُ خَرقَ العاداتِ فائتَلَفَت
على المراشِدِ أغيارٌ وأضدادُ

37. No doubt conquering Ceuta is intended
For consensus after the Saturday attack.

٣٧. لا مِرْيَةٌ أنَّ إهطاعِ المَرِيةَ في
أعْقاب سَبتةَ لِلإجْماعِ مِيعادُ

38. If Marrakesh appealed to him and invited
When Egypt turned to him, and Baghdad.

٣٨. لَئِنْ أَهابَتْ بِهِ مَرَّاكشٌ وَدَعَت
لَمّا عَدَتْ قَصْدَها مِصْرٌ وبَغدادُ

39. He granted the community what it violated and miserly hoarded
Through computations and enumerations he establishes.

٣٩. عَامَ الجَماعَة ما اعتاصَت وَلا نَغِلَتْ
فيما يُقرّرُ حِسْبَانٌ وتَعْدادُ

40. Positions wearied of reform that brings him closer
To success, so he avoids and distances.

٤٠. أعْيا المناصِبَ تَقْويمٌ يُقَرِّبُه
من فوْزِه فاغتَدى يَنأَى وينْآدُ

41. The Romans challenged God's command - how strange!
When does seduction equate with guidance?

٤١. والرُّومُ نَازَعَ أمْرَ اللّهِ يَا عَجَبَا
مَتى تَوازَنَ إِغْواءٌ وَإِرْشَادُ

42. Never will it escape while destiny has determined
For it many necks and observations.

٤٢. هَيهات يَخلُصُ والأَقدارُ قَد وَضَعتْ
مِنها لَها رُقُبٌ كُثْرٌ وأَرْصَادُ

43. How many alike were not protected by might
That for them were numbers that failed and counts?

٤٣. كَم عائِد مِثْلِه لَم يَحمِه وَزَرٌ
كانَتْ له عُدَدٌ خَانَتْ وأَعْدادُ

44. Multitudes do not impress the deluded traitor,
For often individuals defeat thousands.

٤٤. لا تُعجِبِ الخائِنَ المغرُورَ كَثْرَتُه
فَطالَما هَزَم الآلافَ آحادُ

45. The children of Ruwais and Hafs, they vied
In nobility, and the eminent are eminent.

٤٥. أبْناء صُيّابَةٍ حَفصِيّةٍ كَرُمُوا
أرومَةً وَبَنو الأمجادِ أمْجادُ

46. To poems we bid farewell, composing them about them,
Though composition and recital prolonged.

٤٦. إلَى القُصورِ مَآلُ الشعرِ نَقرِضُه
فِيهِم وإِن طَال إنْشاء وإنْشادُ

47. They attend no elegy for their youth,
And have no equals in perfect virtue.

٤٧. لا يحْضُرونَ نَدباً مِن حَدَاثَتِهم
وَما لَهُم في كَمالِ الفَضْلِ أنْدَادُ

48. If they rule they beget, or if wronged they forgive,
The lofty cypresses, fathers and ancestors adorned them.

٤٨. إنْ أَمْلَكُوا أَنجَبوا أَو أَعذَرُوا صَبَروا
حَلاهُمُ السَّرْوَ آباءٌ وأَجْدادُ

49. To where the swords nearly melted upon them
From striking, though hearts of compassion and livers melted.

٤٩. بِحيثُ كادَت لإيقَاعِ الحَديدِ بِهم
تَذوبُ أفْئِدَة رُحْمَى وأكْبادُ

50. The Chosen One raises them, woe to him of nobility!
Praise and gratitude fall short of fulfilling it.

٥٠. يَنْميهِمُ المُرْتَضَى واهاً لَه شَرَفاً
أعْيا القِيامَ بِه حَمْدٌ وإِحْمادُ

51. God protects him until He grants him
The rule of Algeria, leaders and children.

٥١. واللّهُ يَحْرُسُه حَتّى يَحوزَ بِهِ
مُلْكَ البَسيطَةِ أسْبَاطٌ وَأَوْلادُ

52. Conveying to the heir the best he approves,
Beyond pillars the wishes and hopes.

٥٢. مُبَلّغاً في ولِيّ العَهدِ أفْضَلُ ما
يَرْضَاهُ ما تَلَت الآمادَ آمَادُ
