1. Though I am an ebony idol carved,
Silence and discretion suit my nature well.

2. To musk my hue is likened,
And the bride's scent is mingled in my smell.

3. I have exceeded in my perfumes and trousseau,
Drawing the souls in loving zeal.

4. From palms to wrists, from wrists to palms,
My scent of ambergris travels.
