1. He disowned me, while poetry and prose came easily to him
Neither speeches that I excel at, nor poetry comes to me
١. تَبَرَّأَ مِنِّي وَيَحِيَ النَّظمُ والنّثْرُ
فَلا خُطْبةٌ مِما أُجيدُ ولا الشعْرُ
2. Both despair me, my sluggishness to blame
No man bears guilt when the excuse is clear
٢. وأَيْأَسَني مِنْ ذا وذاكَ تَبَلُّدي
وَما لامرِئ ذنْبٌ إذا وَضَح العُذْرُ
