1. The ages slipped by, riven by schism,
God's command allows no resistance.

2. King and slave are equal in the earth,
Al-Nu'man and 'Assam lie side by side.

3. Prepare to stand at judgement resigned,
Perchance disputation may not seize you.

4. No fault excels neglect and omission,
On you; of faults the greatest of all.

5. Say, will you strive or turn and retreat,
If War's fell minions on you complete?

6. You never learned that death is sure and fleet,
Whether pardon or vengeance you meet.

7. Hark to the traveller's bell in the night,
No place of rest for the world's denizens.

8. For the devout is death but healing and light,
As life to him is but sickness and blight.

9. Beware, beware the seas of the world
Whose waves clash in ceaseless commotion.

10. You know they race to disaster unfurled,
We in their launch there is no promotion.

11. Strangest of all that their torrents swirled
Though crowds blocked their path, unchecked in their motion.
