1. They did not bid farewell on the day of departure, neighbor of affection
Nor made me hope for reaching Da'ad

2. Nor excused the reason for separation and sorrow
A prisoner of wishes in the humiliation of chains

3. So is life pleasant after them and do
The nights return with the old affection?

4. And do the days allow for reunion between us
And the loved one or does time not fulfill the promise?

5. So who can even in apparition in the world of ruin
Inform about them what is said in India

6. Do you remember the abode of its glory, glory of splendor
It ignited a soul, sincere in its promise

7. If only a friend would inform the living about them
That the truthful of passion spoke of the promise

8. And who consoles the orphan of time who woke up crying
Upon the breast of a crying mother while still in the cradle

9. She says: have patience, do not die suppressed for her
And my patience for her confused while she’s in the grave

10. So how can life be pleasant when patience has died
And how can separation benefit in the darkness of estrangement?

11. My recklessness rebukes me, and the elder excuses me
For foolishness in forbearance, oh my misery and solitude

12. So many gloaters gloated at me from their gloating
Seats of disappointment, brother of vain hopes

13. And my features of separation are but like one
Stretching his hand to drink comfort in the valley

14. And how can reaching water when the palm is clenched
To a closed mouth that does not loosen from holding back?

15. So the waste of lifetimes fruitlessly
And oh regrets of lifetimes from profitable maturity

16. And my wonder at one loyal to his promise
And the stumbling of the deceived who does not recover

17. When people call he rises without invitation
Sponger of weddings he may attend and deny

18. The porters scold him more than once
But he does not refrain from their door, fallen in ego

19. So what can the hapless whose nature is greed do
About shameless greed and stupid foolishness?

20. After the testing of time, is it seemly for the young man
To incline to fantasies or a dream that makes one lose his way?

21. My youth has turned white and youth is bid farewell
And my hair turned white in middle age and senility

22. Time has taught me, refined in turning
It disciplines me like a child in school of my grandfather

23. And it made me taste after sweetness, shocking
And bitter, and after glory, humiliation in loss

24. So I became behind intimacy in the desolation of my estrangement
Suffering what the lost bewildered weary person suffers

25. And strangest of all in the situation is its silence
When recalling people what is more lost than treasure?

26. I thought the male goat for my wicked delusion
And likeness of udders a female goat from afar

27. But when I milked the male goat and it stood
Close to the relative I became certain of the opposite

28. And among the wonders of things in time is the decent
Who grew old with righteousness if not for wickedness against him

29. Is it not a disgrace, your being decent
And plotting to split religion, miserly about truth?

30. Whoever gathers all the fragments for his house
Will find in the house's corners fallen timber

31. So what excuse for one estranged who does not hasten in consent
To the good of a loyal one who does not harbor any grudges?

32. And how many times I spent the night while happiness in our rooms
Until dawn appeared in the form of a cheek

33. And pure maidens embraced from splendor
And the cups of the present sipped from ecstasy

34. As if there were no scowling guards among the caravan
Nor came from the west of passion, displaying coyness

35. Nor rising in the orient of passion, the rising of dawn
Nor said in the shadow of glory, towering in pride

36. Nor someone discreet in the heart of the sittings, guardian
Nor Hatem, the noblest of hosts, in a cold night

37. Nor Qais of love, nor the boastings of Darim
Nor Qays of the heart, or Tarafah the servant

38. And my mention of their nobility over them suffices
That I am in witnesses, the seal of the count

39. So if a gift finds fault with me and insists
Against me, and tongues of critics suppose suspicion

40. Then they do not know that I am generous in myself
And how does wealth tempt Jesus of asceticism?

41. The blind do not know dawn is truthful
That morning stretches to the lone traveler

42. So where is the transgressor from his honorable day?
And where does the oppressor take refuge in a barren desert?

43. There, one does not escape the horror unless he perishes
Take precautions from the doubt of events with observation

44. So woe to the misguided and alas for one devoted
To the deceived from the attack of the blossoming lion

45. What is the burden of the deluded but a cloud
That shades briefly then is cleared by burning

46. Dreams may be truthful and supposition deceiving
And not like the view of the eye from a report to me

47. And most beautiful in the highs is the pardon of the Able
Upon a sinner who did not commit the sin of ingratitude

48. Who accompanies illusion wakes up crying
Over the loss of his beloved when it does not avail

49. So praise be to the lost in his words though he
Excelled and measured generosity by the sa'a and mudd

50. I am but a servant to the guest as long as residing
And I have none but that trait of servants

51. So the hapless must not hope for pardon from the glorious
If he plots against him or softness of closeness

52. Are you satisfied with the diminishing pride in the stance of prohibiting
While the market of prohibiting is between submissive and adamant?

53. And from the generosity of the generous freeborn his defense
He spares the world from his neighborhood like a coat of mail

54. So the generous are not praised with patience in affliction
Nor is the hyena patient like the dog with a chain

55. Who compares the great lion to a finger
The cub will show him what became in the cheetah

56. The feverish may recover though the day is hot
And the poisoned does not feel the harm in shackles

57. If grace and origin are wholesome in the branch
Arts of dew and innate sweet like cream and butter

58. That is the perfection of merit and nobility, witness
To judge with the balance, equitable without malice

59. Are the children of Al-'Abbas ashamed while glory is in them
An inheritance of their grandfather, not a purchase of effort?

60. And do the sons of riffraff surpass me in the summit
And do not watch over their wildness, pack of monkeys?

61. What is upon me in the rabble led to their doom
By the arrogant in false courage and empty heroism?

62. And in the foolishness of the seal of pure origins
And the rope of loyalty with the promise flowing with hands

63. The generous never ceased to be satisfied by it
Every road of it a drink for the owner of affection

64. Help may arrive and despair is victorious
Over hoping lifetime in ease

65. And the gloom splits open from a dawn of relief
And the mist of rose passion clears in the afternoon

66. So in the market of masters of eloquence and distinction
Are pure and filthy, the choice of the feeble

67. And among the assets of a person are pregnant and miscarried
Among which are stellar and the full moon in view of the wall

68. The examples are not set but for a wise old man
Whose hands are skilled in the rhyming of the resourceful youth

69. And from the wonders of days in every rise
Is its changing like speech which provides both harvest and loss

70. And I do not consider situations good except like one grasping
A jug with his palm from a blessed forearm

71. And with Al-Jahiz in the account is one informing
My certainty like the view of the eye from Hakim the Kurd

72. He secluded in the house of the government, being just
And partnering justice in judgment, these two thunders

73. Had the doubter known what follows estrangement
For its people, he would have ransomed himself to be sacrificed

74. Nor did the just prevent from the door of favor
Bestower of praise in the land like heavy rain

75. Thus he became from the impact of diminution upon dignity
Dear of prestigious lineage, in the humiliation of subjugation

76. And the preacher of the group stood in the congregational mosque
Upon the pulpit of empowerment, calling to righteousness

77. So the era of Al-Walid grew youthful and fortresses did not avail
Defending them from his overpowering, predatory lion

78. There, one does not escape the horror unless he perishes
Take precautions from the doubt of events with wisdom

79. So woe to the misguided and alas for one devoted
To the deceived from the attack of the blossoming lion
