لقد طال بي وجدي ولازمني الأسى

شمس المنازل قد أنارت بالفرح
The sun of homes has illuminated with joy

مدحتكم طمعا فيما اؤمله

يا صاحبي نأى من كان في وطني

مدحتكم يا ليتني لو هجوتكم
I praise you, if only I had satirized you,
سوار أبليتنا بحرب
Our bracelet has been afflicted by war
فقلت له غبله فقال
