1. To you I come today, O Eternal One
To tell of the pain and hardship I bear

2. Today I come to you to complain of darkness
Sorrow upon sorrow and harm upon harm

3. My heart is broken, healed only by your mercy
It is no wonder my brokenness matches the healing

4. Misfortune has struck my wealth and honor
If I have no money, then a wasted life

5. If I do not profit from your generosity
By God, my Lord, I am at a loss

6. My complaint is justified, that is clear
Today my state explains better than my words

7. I seek from you no prize
Except ten gold coins I wish to borrow

8. For two months plus another full month
When pressed, I melt like melted lead

9. Stepping on something hotter than embers
I am not one to accept a consoling promise

10. Many promises give less comfort than patience
Hasten and hurry to dispel my darkness

11. Join me and do not abandon or neglect me
I have explained my whole complaint

12. My breast is open and relieved, O my Lord
