قل لمن يشتكي الأرق

1. Tell the one who complains of insomnia,
O companion of passion and anxiety,

١. قل لمن يشتكي الأرق
يا أخا الوجد والقلق

2. That in love I see none
Like my state, nor insomnia.

٢. أنا في الحب لا أرى
مثل حالي ولا أرق

3. O you who for me has slept and rested,
While Satan, my solace,

٣. ايها الشادن الذي
لي قد نم واسترق

4. With the flame of passion has burned.
O beard of God, blaming

٤. مه فشيطان سلوتي
بشهاب الهوى احترق

5. Came with superstition and nonsense.
He thought I was his solace,

٥. يا لحى الله عاذلا
جاء بالافك واختلق

6. While your love, he did not believe.
If he came to me openly

٦. ظن اني سلوته
وهواكم فما صدق

7. With kinds of blame,
I would not have cracked the stick, and from

٧. انا لو جاء في الملا
بضروب من الملق

8. The dawn and daybreak descended.
By my father in passion a shower

٨. ما شققت العصا ومن
انزل الفجر والفلق

9. Upon me an arrow of love shot.
In it I let flow my tears

٩. بأبي في الهوى رشا
لي سهم الجوى رشق

10. As it runs in floods.
And towards its inclination

١٠. فيه اطلقت مدمعي
فهو يجري على طلق

11. Came an inclination in harmony.
Of soft stature, crescent his cheek,

١١. ولنحو انعطافه
جاء عطف على نسق

12. Sunset his blushing cheek.
If dawn saw his cheek,

١٢. لين قده قسا
قمر خده شفق

13. It would split and crack from it.
Or if the full moon saw his face,

١٣. لو رأى الفجر خده
منه لانشق وانفلق

14. It would disappear in the darkness and vanish.
Or if the branch saw his stature,

١٤. او رأى البدر وجهه
غاب في التم وانمحق

15. The branch would hide in the leaves.
What harm did his phantom do

١٥. او رأى الغصن قده
لاختفى الغصن في الورق

16. If to the door of the tavern it knocked?

١٦. ما الذي ضر طيفه
لو لباب الكرى طرق
