1. O how wonderful are the pastures of Faiha and its valleys
And the good old days we spent there

2. Alas, the sweet life we led in its plains
Its days were bright and its nights were sweet

3. Where waters irrigate its gardens that stand
On markets that run through its avenues

4. And from its vine trees hang branches that
Shower us with flowers from above

5. Clouds wove dresses of fine silk
With exquisite embroidered edges

6. The rain unleashed vegetation in it
And droplets poured in its surroundings

7. Eyes of the dawn shed tears
And the meadows smile in wonder at its crying

8. Its land is like the sky in its freshness
And its shining light is its pearls

9. In its dwellings beautiful maidens appear
Like suns rising around it

10. And birds sing joyfully to its warbling
Nothing else would thrill its happy composer

11. Under its hills run rivers
Flowing smoothly over its pebbles

12. The breeze spreads fragrance from its perfume
And its shade hides the sun from us

It is like a garden adorned and beautified

14. With splendid architecture and layers
If it did not match them in beauty

15. It matched them in meaning one day
Its bride is protected by Guardians

16. I would not replace even if obedient came defiant
Who would seek an alternative to Damascus

17. Or equate it with Egypt or Baghdad
My departure from it was not by my pleasure

18. Though caused by the woes of life and its people
I lament in complaint and shed my tears

19. My cheeks flowing with my sorrows for its calamities
By God it did not alleviate my poverty

20. Nor make up for my misfortune or rhymes
With nothing but insincere promises

21. No compensation is hoped for till Judgment Day
If I criticize, I fear its consequences

22. And if I praise it, I hope for no worldly gain
People all died and the generous passed away

23. While the glories turned with their intimates
Did time become barren since they passed

24. Or did its nights gray at their temples
I have no savior but its leader

25. The Imam and judge of the time
So say to the hopeless longing one
