1. O Master whose generosity
Has spread kindness and giving,

2. In whose shade one finds comfort,
Hear the words of truth from one speaking,

3. I have become unemployed, without work,
Although I was once fully occupied,

4. And though I search, I cannot find
A livelihood safe from misfortune.

5. Poverty has come upon me but I do not
Take revenge on the one who caused this state.

6. Tears flow from me like a river but there is
No compassionate one to pity the questioner.

7. The virtuous have died until
Ignorance reigns, not knowing the wise.

8. Poetry, whether long or short,
Has not brought me any gain.

9. The market for it today is stagnant,
Like my own idle state.

10. Once no one would buy,
So how could it fare well in this slumbering time?

11. No life of meaning in it for the rational one,
Only the ignorant enjoy life.

12. All those I have turned to
Immediately complain of the ruler's tyranny.

13. So I withdraw in despair
Of a task meant for the doer.

14. I find no loyalty, no one
To be generous out of friendship.

15. Cut off are connections to me
Until provisions are exhausted.

16. Fate turned against me though I
Never feared the unjust or blameworthy.

17. Today I am in need and truly
Matters have narrowed for the provider.

18. I am certain that I have
None but the Imam, the knowing worker.

19. Judge of judges, brilliant one who
Clarifies truth from falsehood.

20. A raincloud whose origin is generosity,
Which pours upon me from its floods,

21. Like a gift of rain when it is generous,
And when angry, like a lion in battle.

22. In him I place my hopes for he is one
Who has what the hopeful desires.

23. His hands which have always generously
Poured forth extend to help me.

24. With your kindness, relieve my poverty
Which has persisted, and no sin upon the killer.

25. Take a lofty poem whose verses
I composed mystically for the night.

26. And live a long life without
Sorrow in complete joy.

27. The leaves have not sung with all
Their meanings on their branch as you do.
