If wealth could be gained by stratagems
إن على كل رئيس حقا
Every leader has the right
أيها الكاتب ما تكتب
O writer, whatever you write
إن اخاك الحق من كان معك
Your brother in truth is he who sides with you
يا أيهذا المبتغي أبا الحسن
O you, Abu Al-Hasan, seeker of wisdom
هب الدنيا تساق إليك عفوا
The fleeting world comes to you unbidden
وما الدهر والأيام إلا كما ترى
Time and days are but as you see
خوفني منجم أخو خبل
An astrologer, a brother of madness
أتطلب رزق الله من عند غيره
Do you seek God's provision from other than Him
كن ابن من شئت واكتسب أدبا
Be the son of whoever you wish and acquire good manners.
الليل هول يرهب المهيبا
The night is fearsome, frightening the frightening one
ما غاض دمعي عند نازلة
My tears did not flow at any misfortune,
وذي سفه يخاطبني بجهل
And one lacking wisdom addresses me in ignorance
يا أيها السائل عن أصحابي
O seeker who asks of my companions
عجبت لجازع باك مصاب
I wondered at the mourner crying, struck
إن الأسود أسود الغاب همتها
In the wilderness the lions are blackest in mood
فارق تجد عوضا عمن تفارقه
You will find a substitute for those you leave behind
صبرت عن اللذات لما تولت
I endured deprivation when pleasures went away
قد علم القوم لدى الصياح
The people knew, when cries rang out,
تمنى رجال أن أموت وإن أمت
A man wished that I would die; and if I die
إن الذين بنوا فطال بناؤهم
Those who built high towers
غض عينا على القذى
Turn a blind eye to faults
إذا ما المرء لم يحفظ ثلاثا
If a man does not keep three things
أي يومي من الموت أفر
Which of my two appointed days shall I flee from death,
وينصر الله من لاقاه إن له
And God supports whom He meets
ما هذه الدنيا وطالبها
Outspread lying on the sunny air
ألم تر أن الفقر يرجى له الغنى
Have you not seen that poverty is hoped for, wealth is feared
دليلك أن الفقر خير من الغنى
Your poverty is proof that being poor is better than being rich
أريد بذاكم أن تهشوا لطلقتي
I want with that you hasten to my demise
وليس كثيرا ألف خل وصاحب
A thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many.
أبني إن من الرجال بهيمة
Father, some men are beasts
أما تراني كيسا مكيسا
Do you not see me wise and prudent
فتى كان يدنيه الغنى من صديقه
A youth whom wealth drew near his friend
إن كنت ذا علم بما الله قضى
If you knew what fate Allah decreed
إذا النائبات بلغن المدى
When hardships reach their peak
وإنك مهما تعط نفسك سؤلها
And though you give yourself, asking and hoping
يا حبذا مقامنا بالكوفه
Oh, how nice is our stay in Kufa
لا تبخلن بدنيا وهي مقبلة
Do not be stingy with the world while it is still before you
إلى الله أشكو لا إلى الناس أشتكي
I complain to Allah, not to people
إنما الدنيا كظل زائل
The world is but a fading shadow
وأفضل قسم الله للمرء عقله
A man's intellect is the best gift he's given
يا من بدنياه اشتغل
O you who is busy with his world
فداري مناخ لمن قد نزل
My home is a shelter for whoever descends
إن يومي من الزبير ومن طلحة
My days with Zubair and Talha are long
ودع التجبر والتكبر يا أخي
Leave arrogance and pride, my brother
ألم تر أن الدهر يوم وليلة
Do you not see that time is but a day and a night
لا تظلمن إذا ما كنت مقتدرا
Do not oppress when you have power
فمن يحمد الدنيا لعيش يسره
So one who praises this life for pleasures that delight him
أنا بالدهر عليم
I am wise in the ways of time
كم أديب فطن عالم
How many an astute scholar
وإذا طلبت إلى كريم حاجة
When you seek a need from the generous
كيفية المرء ليس المرء يدركها
How does one know himself
متى تجمع القلب الذكي وصارما
When will the wise heart and firm
دنيا تحول بأهلها
Roaming with its people each day
ولو أني بليت بهاشمي
Had I been afflicted by a Hashimite
إن الأمين وإن تعفف جهده
The honest one, though he is chaste
فاطم ذات المجد واليقين
O Fatima, possessor of glory and certainty
يا لهف نفسي فاتني معاويه
O my yearning soul, Mu'awiyah has escaped me
خلوا سبيل العير يأت أهله
Silence, let the caravan pass
النار أهون من ركوب العار
Fire is better than riding disgrace
أرى علل الدينا علي كثيرة
I see the ailments of time are many upon me,
تنكر لي دهري ولم يدر أنني
My fate turned against me, unaware
ومن يصحب الدنيا يكن مثل قابض
Whoever befriends this world will be like one who grasps
نحن الكرام بنو الكرام
We are the generous, children of generosity
من لم يكن عنصرا طيبا
He who is not a wholesome element
يا أيهذا المبتغي عليا
O you who seek the exalted Ali
غر جهولا أمله
He misled a fool, his hope
رضينا قسمة الجبار فينا
We accepted the decree of the Almighty concerning us
أغمض عيني في أمور كثيرة
I close my eyes to many matters
اصبر على الدهر لا تغضب على أحد
Be patient with fate, do not get angry at anyone
أحمد ربي على خصال
I praise my Lord for traits
أنا الذي سمتني أمي حيدره
I am the one my mother named Haydarah
قصر الجديد إلى بلى
The new palace is destined to ruin
يا عمرو ويحك قد أتاك
O Amro, woe to you, the one responding to your call has come
يا جار همدان من يمت يرني
O neighbor Hamdan, whoever dies sees me
إن القليل من الكلام بأهله
A little speech is good from one who is worthy,
رأيت المشركين بغوا علينا
I saw the polytheists transgress against us
رأيت العقل عقلين
I saw the mind has two forms
أنا أخو المصطفى لا شك في نسبي
I am the brother of al-Mustafa, no doubt in my lineage
أتم الناس أعرفهم بنقصه
The perfect of men are those who best know their own defects
جميع فوائد الدنيا غرور
All the pleasures of this world are fleeting
لا شيء إلا الله فارفع ظنكا
Nothing but Allah so raise your hopes
أنا الغلام القرشي المؤتمن
I am the trusty Qurashi lad
إذا عقد القضاء عليك أمرا
When fate decrees a thing for you
فلو أني أطعت عصبت قومي
If I had obeyed the madness of my people
ولوأنني جاوبته لأمضه
And had I answered him, my words would have destroyed him
يمثل ذو العقل في نفسه
He who is wise prepares in his mind
توقوا النساء فإن النساء
Beware of women, for women
فإن تكن الدنيا تعد نفيسة
If this world is deemed precious,
بلوت صروف الدهر ستين حجة
I have tasted the vicissitudes of fate for sixty years
أرى الدنيا ستؤذن بانطلاق
I see this world is about to set forth
هذا زمان ليس إخوانه
This is an age whose people are not brothers
رضيت بما قسم الله لي
I am pleased with what Allah has decreed for me
مساكين أهل الفقر حتى قبورهم
The poor even in their graves are filled with dusty shame
إن المنية شربة مورودة
Death is a draught that must be drunk
الله أكرمنا بنصر نبيه
God has honored us with victory for His Prophet
حرض بنيك على الآداب في الصغر
Urge your children to manners in their youth
يا طالب الصفو في الدنيا بلا كدر
O seeker of serenity in this world without turmoil
إذا لم يكن عون من الله للفتى
If help comes not to the youth from Allah,
صبرت على مر الأمور كراهة
I endured the bitterness of life out of obligation
عجبا للزمان في حالتيه
Wonder at this world in all its states!
سيكفيني المليك وحد سيف
The sword's edge alone will suffice me
لنقل الصخر من قلل الجبال
I would rather move mountains
وكانوا على الإسلام إلبا ثلاثة
They were three pillars against Islam
وكن معدنا للحلم واصفح عن الأذى
Be a source of forbearance, overlook harm
وداو عدوا داءه لا تداره
Treat an enemy's injury, do not nurse his grudge,
أغن عن المخلوق بالخالق
Sing of the Creator instead of the created
أف على الدنيا وأسبابها
I grieve for this world and its trappings,
لا تخضعن لمخلوق على طمع
Do not submit to any creature out of greed
حقيق بالتواضع من يموت
One who dies deserves humility,
اذا ما شئت أن تحيا
If you wish life to be sweet, my friend,
عش موسرا إن شئت أو معسرا
Live in luxury or live modestly
إذا ما عرى خطب من الدهر فاصطبر
When affairs of life afflict thee, endure
من لم يكن جده مساعده
The one who lacks assistance from his ancestors
أبا لهب تبت يداك أبا لهب
Abu Lahab, may your hands perish
فرض على الناس أن يتوبوا
Repentance is incumbent upon mankind
فلو كانت الدنيا تنال بفطنة
Were this world attained by wisdom and merit, I would sit enthroned on high;
هذا لكم من الغلام الغالبي
This is from the victorious youth
يا رب ثبت لي قدمي وقلبي
My Lord, make my feet firm and my heart steadfast
أنا علي وابن عبد المطلب أحمي
I am Ali, son of Abd al-Muttalib
دبوا دبيب النمل لا تفوتوا
Swarm like ants, let none escape
حسين إذا كنت في بلدة
O Hussein, if you are in a strange land
ناديت همدان والأبوان مغلقة
I called Hamdan though doors were shut;
أصبحت أذكر أرحاما آصرة
I begin to remember close wombs
قد كنت ميتا فصرت حيا
You were dead, then brought to life
إنما الدنيا فناء
This fleeting world is but illusion
خلوا سبيل المؤمن المجاهد
Leave the believer who struggles alone
يا شاهد الله علي فاشهد
O witness of God over me, so bear witness
فلا تفش سرك إلا إليك
Do not reveal your secret except to yourself
كل ماض كأن لم يكن
All that is past is as though it had not been.
صديق عدوي داخل في عداوتي
My enemy's friend is part of my enmity
إليك أشكو عجري وبجري
To you I complain of my hardship and distress
لئن ساءني دهر عزمت تصبرا
If time has wronged me, I am determined to be patient,
يا عجبا لقد سمعت منكرا
Oh what a monstrosity I have heard
يا ذا الذي يطلب مني الوترا
O you who asks me for ruins
إذا المشكلات تصدين لي
When obstacles block my path
لهف نفسي وقليل ما أسر
My soul yearns, though little I reveal
أعوذ بالرحمن أن أميلا
I seek refuge with the Most Merciful lest I incline
الناس في زمن الإقبال كالشجرة
People in prosperous times are like a tree
ولا خير في الشكوى إلى غير مشتكي
Complaining to other than the complained offers no remedy
إذا كنت لا تدري ولم تك سائلا
If you don't ask about knowledge, though ignorant you be,
يعيب رجال زمانا مضى
Men blame the passing days of yore,
ألله حي قديم قادر صمد
God is alive, eternal, able, self-sufficient
لا تطلبن معيشة بمذلة واربأ
Do not seek a living in humiliation
ابيضي واصفري وغري غيري
My whiteness, my yellowness, my greenness changed me
أفلح من كانت له قوصره
He who owns a date palm tree
إقبل معاذير من يأتيك معتذرا
Accept the excuses of those who come to you apologizing
صن السر عن كل مستخبر
Keep your secret from each prying eye
سلام على أهل القبور الدوارس
Peace be upon the people of the whirling graves
سمحت بأمر لا يطاق حفيظة
You allowed something intolerable to the vigilant
إصبر على مضض الإدلاج في السحر
Endure the bitterness of nightly exertions at dawn
نوم امرئ خير له من يقظة
A man's sleep is better for him than wakefulness
للناس حرص على الدنيا بتدبير
People have a greed for this world and its gains
يهددني بالعظيم الوليد
The mighty Walid threatens me,
لا تجزعن إذا نابتك نائبة
Do not despair when calamity befalls you,
الحمد لله ربي الخالق الصمد
Praise be to Allah, my Lord, the Creator, the Eternal
أرى المرء والدنيا كمال وحاسب
Roses are red, violets are blue,
جزى الله عنا الموت خيرا فإنه
May Allah reward us for death, for it
ألا صاحب الذنب لا تقنطن
O companion of sin! Despair not,
لا تحسبني يا علي غافلا
Do not think me, O Ali, inattentive,
أصبحت مني يا ابن حرب جاهلا
You have become, O son of war, ignorant
جسمي معي غير أن الروح عندكم
My body's with me though my soul stays with you
يا طلح إن كنت كما تقول
O Talha, if you are as you claim
ما اعتاض باذل وجهه بسؤاله
The one who gave his face did not complain by his request,
أعيني جودا بارك الله فيكما
My eyes have been generous, may Allah bless you both
الناس من جهة التمثال اكفاء
In form, people are all equal
إذا عاش الفتى ستين عاما
If a young man lives sixty years,
إلهي أنت ذو فضل ومن
My Lord, You are gracious and kind
أخوك الذي إن أخرجتك ملمة
Your brother who, if adversity
لا تكره المكروه عند نزوله
Do not hate trials when they come upon you,
الصبر مفتاح ما يرجى
Patience is the key to what is hoped for
ألا لن تنال العلم إلا بستة
Know that knowledge can only be attained through six:
أمن تذكر دهر غير مأمون
With remembrance of an uncertain past, you've grown sad and weep in sorrow
أصم عن الكلم المحفظات
I am silent to guarded speech,
النفس تجزع أن تكون فقيرة
The soul is averse to being poor,
هذا جناي وخياره فيه
This garden and its bountiful harvest
يا أكرم الخلق على الله
O the most virtuous of creations in Allah's sight
ولو أنا إذا متنا تركنا
And if when we died we were left alone
لو أن قومي طاوعتني سراقهم
If only my people had obeyed me when I called them,
وفي قبض كف الطفل عند ولاده
In the infant's tight-fisted grip at birth
سيف رسول الله في يميني
The sword of Allah's Messenger is in my right hand,
قدم لنفسك في الحياة تزودا
Make provision for yourself in life, for you will certainly bid it farewell.
ولما رأيت الخيل تقرع بالقنا
When I saw the horses striking with spears
ما لا يكون فلا يكون بحيلة
What will not be, will not be by any means
قد يعلم الناس أنا خيرهم نسبا
People may know that we are the best of them in lineage
نصرني ربي خير ناصر
My Lord has granted me the best Defender
أقحم فلا تنالك الأسنة
Thrust yourself forward, do not mind the slanderers,
أدمت لعمري شريك المحض صابحا
You have saddled my whole life with an utter fool,
إن المكارم أخلاق مطهرة
Noble virtues are purified morals
محمد النبي أخي وصهري
Muhammad, the Prophet, is my brother and kinsman
تحرز من الدنيا فإن فناءها
Beware of this world, for its demise
لئن ساءني دهر لقد سرني دهر
If time has saddened me, time has also brought me joy,
يا مؤثر الدنيا على دينه
O you who prefer the world over your religion,
أفادتني القناعة كل عز
Contentment has provided me every honor
إلبس أخاك على عيوبه
Cover your brother's faults
هي حالان شدة ورخاء
There are two states, hardship and prosperity
تؤمل في الدنيا طويلا ولا تدري
You ponder upon this life for so long, not knowing
لو كان هذا العلم يحصل بالمنى
If knowledge could be gained by mere yearning,
لا هم إن الحارث بن صمه
Worry not, for Al-Harith bin Sammah
إن الذي قد اصطفى محمدا
He who chose Muhammad
لا تأمن الموت في ظرف ولا نفس
Do not feel secure from death at any time or state,
الأزد سيفي على الأعداء كلهم
The tribe of Azd, their swords are upon all their enemies,
قد حمل القول فبركا بركا
The words have borne fruit, so blessings upon blessings!
أرى حربا مغيبة وسلما
I see a hidden war and peace
فهل لك أبي حسن علي
O my father Hasan, O Ali
قد قيل إن الإله ذو ولد
It has been said that God has a son
أفاطم هاك السيف غير ذميم
Afatema, wave that sword which is not blunt
إن عضك الدهر فانتظر فرجا
If time has bitten you, then wait for relief,
ستشهد لي بالكر والطعن راية
A banner will bear witness of valor and blame for me,
قومي إذا اشتبك القنا
My people when the battle is joined
إذا شئت أن تستقرض المال منفقا
If you want to borrow money to spend
أنا مذ كنت صبيا
Since I was a young boy
الحمد لله لا شريك له
Praise be to Allah, who has no partner
لا تفسدن سابق إحسان مضى
Do not spoil the good you did in days gone by,
أنا علي وابن عبد المطلب نحن
I am Ali, son of Abdul Muttalib
قضد عرف الحرب العوان أني
The war knows my determination as the enemy approaches,
ومحترس من نفسه خوف ذلة
Cautious of himself, fearing disgrace
أخ طاهر الأخلاق عذب كأنه
A brother of pure character, sweet as though he were
صبر الفتى لفقره يجله
The young man's patience in poverty ennobles him,
أنا ابن ذي الحوضين عبد المطلب
I am the son of he who has the two pools, Abd al-Muttalib
أنا للحراب اليها
I am for the sword, to it I go,
لا تطلبن معيشة بمذلة
Do not seek a livelihood through humiliation,
إلام تجر أذيال التصابي
Why do you drag the skirts of youth
ضرب ثنى الأبطال في المشاعب
The youths struck their blows in the battle grounds
ألم تر أن الله أبلى رسوله
Did you not see how God afflicted His messenger
آلى ابن عبد حين جاء محاربا
The son of Abd charged into battle
وكم قد تركنا في دمشق وأهلها
How many we left in Damascus and its people
جنبي تجافى عن الوساد
My side shunned the pillow
ذهب الذين عليهم وجدي
Those whom my affection clung have gone and left me;
اليوم أبلو حسبي وديني
Today I prove my lineage and faith
تلكم قريش تمناني لتقتلني
Those are the Quraysh, they wished me dead
لعمرك ما الإنسان إلا بدينه
By your life! A man is only through his faith.
الليل داج والكباش تنتطح
The night is dark and the rams collide
أنا علي وابن عبد المطلب
I am Ali, son of Abd al-Muttalib
أضربهم ولا أرى معاوية
I strike them though I see not Mu'awiyah
صن النفس واحملها على ما يزينها
Guard your soul, and guide it rightly,
أيحسب أولاد الجهالة أننا
Do the ignorant youth think that we
أيها الفاجر جهلا بالنسب
O ignorant one in lineage and birth
إن كنت تبغي أن ترى أبا الحسن
If you wish to see Abu al-Hasan
توق مدى الأيام إدخال مطعم
The craving for food lasts a long time, before the digestion of food;
الدهر يخنق أحيانا قلادته
Sometimes fate squeezes its necklace
فأهلا وسهلا بضيف نزل
Welcome, welcome to a guest who's arrived
مالي وقفت على القبور مسلما
Why have I paused by the graves to bid farewell,
نفسي على زفراتها محبوسة
My soul on its sighs is imprisoned
لأوردن العاصي ابن العاصي
I will lead the rebel son of the rebel,
وقيت بنفسي خير من وطئ الحصى
I protected myself, better than one who walked on pebbles
نحن بنو الأرض وسكانها
We are the sons of earth and its dwellers
فما نوب الحوادث باقيات
The strokes of fortune last not forever,
سبحان رب العباد يا وبره
Glory to the Lord of servants, O Worshipped One
إنما نعمة دنيا متعة
The joys of this world are but a borrowed delight,
أجد الثياب إذا اكتسيت فإنها
I find that clothes, when I put them on
قريح القلب من وجع الذنوب
The soul's gift from the pain of sins
لا يستوي من يعمر المساجدا
Not equal are those who dwell in mosques
دع الحرص على الدنيا
Leave off greed for this world,
الدهر أدبني واليأس أغناني
Time has taught me, and despair has made me wealthy
يغطي عيوب المرء كثرة ماله
A man's wealth covers his flaws.
إذا هبت رياحك فاغتنمها
When the winds of fortune favor you, seize them as they blow,
أرقت لنوح آخر الليل غردا
I stayed up late grieving, singing a sad song,
لنا ما تدعون بغير حق
We have what you falsely claim
أشدد حيازيمك للموت
Grasp your weapons against death
دع ذكرهن فما لهن وفاء
Leave the mention of them, for they have no loyalty
أنا الغلام العربي المنتسب
I am the Arab youth descended
فإن تسألني كيف أنت فإنني
If you ask me how I am, I am
والله لو عاش الفتى من دهره
By God, if the young man lived a thousand years
فلا تكثرن القول في غير وقته
Do not speak too much at the wrong time,
أتاني أن هندا أخت صخر
A sister of Sakhra came and told me
وكم لله من لطف خفي
How much hidden grace God has,
لو صيغ من فضة نفس على قدر
If a soul were cast in silver according to merit
إذا رمت أن تعلى فزر متواترا
If you wish to rise high, visit regularly.
ألا احذروا في حربكم أبا الحسن
Beware in your war of Abu Al-Hasan
إني عجزت عجزة لا أعتذر
I have failed, and fail without excuse;
لو كانت الأرزاق تجري على
If livelihoods flowed to each
إصبر قليلا فبعد العسر تيسير
Be patient a little while, after hardship comes ease
وهون عليك فإن الأمور
And let it be easy for you, for the matters
ألا أيها الموت الذي ليس تاركي
O Death, who spares no one,
أعاذلتي على إتعاب نفسي
My blame of myself for distressing my soul,
إذا اجتمعت عليا معد ومذحج
When 'Ulayya and Muḍḥij unite
فتن تحل بهم وهن شوارع
Temptations come upon them while they are streets
كد كد العبد إن أحبيت
The effort of a slave avails not
تمتع بها ما ساعفتك ولا تكن
Enjoy her while she allures you, and do not let
تغربت أسأل من عن لي
I'm a stranger, I ask whoever knows me,
قد رأيت القرون كيف تفانت
I have seen the centuries pass away,
إذا كنت في نعمة فارعها
If you are blessed, then preserve that blessing,
لقد خاب من غرته دنيا دنية
The fleeting world has failed all who dreamed,
فإن كنت بالشورى ملكت أمورهم
If you ruled through consultation
إطعن بها طعن أبيك تحمد
Stab with it as your father stabbed
فلا تصحب أخا الجهل
Do not befriend the ignorant one,
إذا المرء لم يرض ما أمكنه
When a man is not pleased with what he is able,
فرض الإمامة لي من بعد أحمدنا
The Imamate for me after our Ahmad
لقد كان ذا جد وجد بكفره
He was determined in his disbelief, and persisted in it,
إذا اجتمع الآفات فالبخل شرها
When misfortunes gather, stinginess is the worst
أنا علي فاسألوني تخبروا
I am Ali, so ask me and be informed,
أنا الصقر الذي حدثت عنه
I am the falcon you have heard of
ألا فاصبر على الحدث الجليل
Oh endure with patience the great misfortune,
أمن بعد تكفين النبي ودفنه
After the Prophet's burial, do we live in comfort and incline towards heedlessness?
ومن كرمت طبائعه تحلى
He whose nature was graced with nobility
علمي غزير وأخلاقي مهذبة
My knowledge vast, my manners refined
يا لهف نفسي قتلت ربيعه
الموت لا والدا يبقي ولا ولدا
ما إن تأوهت في شيء رزئت به
يعزونني قوم براء من الصبر
ما تركت بدر لنا صديقا
لن يأكل التمر بظهر مكه
أتأمرني بالصبر في نصر أحمد
دونكها مترعة دهاقا
إني أقول لنفسي وهي ضيقة
إليك ربي لا إلى سواكا
العجز عن درك الإدراك إدراك
كآساد غيل وأشبال خيس
ما أكثر الناس لا بل ما أقلهم
نصرنا رسول الله لما تدابروا
إذا اشتملت على اليأس القلوب
غالبت كل شديدة فغلبتها
سليم العرض من حذر الجوابا
شيئان لو بكت الدماء عليهما
تبا وتعسا لك يا ابن عتبه
إذا حادت الدنيا عليك فجد بها
حبيب ليس لي بعد حبيب
خليلي لا والله ما من ملمة
هموم رجال في أمور كثيرة
مضى أمسك الباقي شهيدا معدلا
أصول بالله العزيز الأمجد
إذا كنت في الأمس اقترفت إساءة
تفنى اللذاذة ممن نال صفوتها
وفي الجهل قبل الموت موت لأهله
الشيب عنوان المني
كنت السواد لناظري
رأيت الدهر مختلفا يدور
تلاقين قيسا وأشياعه
لا تضع المعروف في ساقط
مالي على فوت فائت أسف
قد علمت ذات القرون الميل
إن عبدا أطاع ربا جليلا
أبا طالب عصمة المستجير
لا تودع السر إلا عند ذي كرم
فاطم بنت السيد الكريم
كيف أصبحت كيف أمسيت مما
إلهي لا تعذبني فإني
لا تعتبن على العباد فإنما
لو كان في صخرة في البحر راسية
ألا يا رسول الله كنت رجائيا
أولئك إخواني الذاهبون
تغيرت المودة والإخاء
وكم ساع ليثري لم ينله
حياتك أنفاس تعد فكلما
وما طلب المعيشة بالتمني
ألم تر قومي إذ دعاهم أخوهم
ذهب الوفاء ذهاب أمس الذاهب
ترد رداء الصبر عند النوائب
ليس البلية في أيامنا عجبا
أنا علي وابن عبد المطلب مهذب
أبى الله إلا أن صفين دارنا
أي فتى ليل أخي روعات
أحسين إني واعظ ومؤدب
فلم أر كالدنيا بها اغتر أهلها
إذا ضاق الزمان عليك فاصبر
تعلم فإن الله زادك بسطة
أقول لعيني احبسي اللحظات
رأيت ربي بعين قلبي
وكم خليل لك خاللته
الرفق يمن والأناة سعادة
ما ودني أحد إلا بذلت له
فاطم يا بنت النبي أحمد
لما رأيت الأمر أمرا منكرا
ألا ترون قد حفرت حفرا
فإن للحرب عراما شزرا
دواؤك فيك وما تبصر
خاطر بنفسك لا تقعد بمعجزة
غنى النفس يكفي النفس حتى يكفها
أحسنت ظنك بالأيام إذ حسنت
ذهب الرجال المقتدى بفعالهم
وما ظبية تسبي القلوب بطرفها
ألم تر أن البحر ينضب ماؤه
دبوا دبيب النمل قد آن الظفر
عسى منهل يصفو فيروي ظمية
أيا من ليس لي منه مجير
رأتك الليالي يا ابن آدم ظالما
فلا يبعدنك الله إما تركتنا
لا تتهم ربك فيما قضى
العلم زين فكن للعلم مكتسبا
سأمنح مالي كل من جاء طالبا
إذا أذن الله في حاجة
نحن نؤم النمط الأوسطا
الفضل من كرم الطبيعة
مات الوفاء فلا رفد ولا طمع
لك الحمد إما على نعمة
ذنوبي إن فكرت فيها كثيرة
لك الحمد يا ذا الجود والمجد والعلا
تجوع فإن الجوع من عمل التقى
ألم تعلم أبا سمعان أنا
عرفت ومن يعتدل يعرف
أقيك بنفسي أيها المصطفى الذي
ما أحسن الدنيا وإقبالها
يا عمرو قد لاقيت فارس همة
الحمد لله الجميل المفضل
إذا قربت ساعة يا لها
ألا باعد الله أهل النفاق
ألا قد أرى والله أن لست منكم
عد من نفسك الحياة فصنها
يا مرحبا بالقائلين عدلا
لنا الراية الحمراء يخفق ظلها
ما الدهر إلا يقظة ونوم
جزى الله خيرا عصبة أسلمية
ما علتي وأنا جلد حازم
ليبك على الاسلام من كان باكيا
ضربته بالسيف فوق الهامه
إنا نعزيك لا إنا على ثقة
أتصبر للبلوى عزاء وحسبة
أصبحت بين الهموم والهمم
أما والله إن الظلم شؤم
هون الأمر تعش في راحة
كن للمكاره بالعزاء مقطعا
النفس تبكي على الدنيا وقد علمت
لا ينقص الكامل من كماله
أرى حمرا ترعى وتأكل ما تهوى
ألا طرق الناعي بليل فراعني
إذا أظمأتك أكف الرجال
