1. He who is wise prepares in his mind
For misfortunes before their descent

2. So if they suddenly befall him unawares
It is not as hard for what was in his mind exemplified

3. He saw matters leading to an end
So he made the end first in his mind

4. While the ignorant feel safe in their days
And forget the death of those who passed away before

5. If the turns of time surprise him
With some of its misfortunes he yells

6. Had he prepared prudence within himself
It would have taught him patience during tribulation
