1. When a man is not pleased with what he is able,
And does not do what most becomes him,
١. إِذا المَرءُ لَم يَرضَ ما أَمكَنَهُ
وَلَم يَأتِ مِن أَمرِهِ أَزيَنَه
2. And is full of self-admiration, which leads him astray,
And wanders lost in confusion he thinks is right,
٢. وَأَعجَبُ بِالعُجبِ فَاِقتادَهُ
وَتاهَ بِهِ التِّيهِ فَاِستَحسَنَهُ
3. Leave him alone - his planning is his own ruin.
One day he will laugh, another he will weep out his years.
٣. فَدَعهُ فَقَد ساءَ تَدبيرُهُ
سَيَضحَكُ يَوماً وَيَبكي سَنَه
