1. Leave off greed for this world,
And in living do not be ambitious,

2. And do not gather wealth,
For you know not for whom you gather.

3. And you know not in which land
You or another will die.

4. For sustenance is apportioned,
And ill thoughts do not help.

5. Poor is everyone who is ambitious,
Wealthy is everyone who is content.
