- أبو بكر سر في طريق الله رب العبادAbu Bakr, walk the path of God, Lord of His servants,
- أجود بدمعي والدموع على الخدI pour forth my tears; the tears upon my cheek
- أحبتنا بنجد والصفيحO our beloved ones in Najd and the firmament,
- أحسنت يا وجيه دين اللهWell done, O Wajih of God's faith,
- أدر ذكر سلمى وذكر سعادLet mention of Salma and Su'ad go round
- إذا أنست من خل جفاءWhen I sense coldness from a friend,
- إذا شئت أن تحيا سعيدا مدى العمرIf you wish to live happily throughout your life,
- أسفت على أيام عمر تصرمتI lamented the days of my life that have passed away.
- أطع ربك البارى وصفوة رحمانObey your Lord, the Creator, and the Merciful's chosen one,
- أقول للناظم المجيدI say to the accomplished poet:
- أقوم بفرض العامرية والنفلI offer al-ʿĀmiriyya obligatory and voluntary service,
- ألا ليت شعري والفؤاد به ثأرOh, would that I knew—my heart harbors a thirst for vengeance,
- ألا يا بخت من زارهم بالصدق وأندرAh, how fortunate is whoever visited them sincerely and journeyed
- ألا يا صاح يا صاحListen, O friend, O friend!
- ألا يا نازلين على الكثيبO you who have alighted upon the dune,
- ألا يا نفس ويحك كم توانيLo, O soul! Alas for you—how long you linger!
- البدار البدار قبل الفواتHasten, hasten, before it is too late!
- الحال يا أحبتنا ببشارHow fare you, our loved ones in Bashar?
- الحمد الله على كل ماPraise be to God for all that
- الحمد لله الشهيد الحاضرPraise be to God, the Witness, the Ever-Present,
- إلزم باب ربك واترك كل دونStay at your Lord’s door and leave all else.
- الشك والوهم رأس الشر والحذرDoubt and delusion are the source of evil and apprehension.
- العبد قد بناهThe servant has built it
- الله جل الله عن التكييفAllah—exalted is Allah beyond all attribution of a 'how'.
- الله لا تشهد سواه ولا ترىGod—witness none but Him, and see none
- الناس في ضيق وفي حرجPeople are in hardship and distress.
- إلى متى لا تجف عينيHow long will my eye stay wet
- إليك يا رب يا عالم بذات الصدورTo You, O Lord, O Knower of what lies within hearts.
- اليوم قلبي تذكرToday my heart remembered
- أمن الموت أجزعDo I recoil in fear from death,
- أموت بدائي والدوا في يديكمI die of my illness, while the cure lies in your hands.
- إن القناعة كنز ليس بالفانيIndeed, contentment is a treasure that does not perish.
- إن كان هذا الذي أكابدهIf this, which I struggle to endure,
- أنا مشغول بليليI am absorbed in Layla,
- أنتم أنتم أحبة لقلبيYou, you are the beloved of my heart,
- أنتم للعين والأثرFor the eye and the trace, you are
- أهلا وسهلا بالحبيب الواصلWelcome to the beloved who has arrived!
- أهلا وسهلا بالظبي الأغيدA warm welcome to the graceful gazelle,
- أيها العبد لا تيأسO servant, do not despair
- بإحيا علوم الدين تحيا قلوبناThrough the Revival of the Religious Sciences, our hearts come alive,
- بروق الغور تلمع في الدياجيThe lightning flashes of al-Ghawr gleam in the dark nights,
- بشر فؤادك بالنصيب الوافيGive your heart glad tidings of a full share
- بصرت بركب الحي للحي سائراI caught sight of the tribe's caravan journeying toward the encampment.
- بعثت لجيران العقيق تحيتيI sent my greetings to the neighbors of al-Aqiq,
- بنفس أفدي خير من وطئ الثرىWith my life I ransom the best who ever trod the earth,
- تبلغ بالقليل من القليلMake do with a little of a little,
- تذرى الدموع السواكبThe streaming tears are shed
- تفيض عيون بالدموع السواكبEyes overflow with streaming tears,
- جزى الله خيرا سيدا وابن سيدMay God reward with goodness a sayyid, son of a sayyid,
- حويدي المطايا كم تقيم مع الصدO driver of the mounts, how long will you linger in estrangement,
- حي حياليا الوصل في وادي الغيدHail, hail to union in the valley of the graceful beauties!
- حي ظبي الرمال والأطلالGreet the gazelle of the sands and ruined dwellings
- حيا سليمان صوب العارض الهطلMay the rain-cloud's abundant downpour greet Sulayman,
- حييت يا مربع الأحبابHail, O abode of loved ones,
- خذ ما صفا ودع الكدرTake what is clear, and leave the murk.
- خذ يمينا خذ يميناTurn right, turn right,
- خل إدكارك ربعا دارس الطللLeave off remembering a dwelling whose ruins are effaced,
- خل عنك الهم يا قلب الحزينSet aside worry, O sorrowful heart.
- خلها تجري بعين الله فيLet it flow beneath God's watchful eye, in
- خليلي إن الشوق قد كاد أن يبلىMy friend, longing had almost worn away
- دع الناس يا قلبي يقولون ما بداLet people, O my heart, say whatever comes
- ذكر العهد والربى والمنازلHe recalled the old days, the hills, and the dwellings,
- زارني بعد الجفا ظبي النجودThe gazelle of the highlands visited me after estrangement.
- سرى البرق من نجد فهيج لي شجويThe lightning flashed by night from Najd, stirring my sorrow.
- سقتك غوادي السحب ربع الأحبةMay the clouds' morning showers water you, dwelling of the beloved.
- سقلى الله ربعا حل فيه الذي أهويMay God water the dwelling where the one I love has settled,
- سقى الله بشارا بوابل رحمةMay God water Bashar with a downpour of mercy,
- سلام سلام كمسك الختامPeace, peace, like musk at the close,
- سلام على إخواننا والأحبةPeace upon our brothers and the loved ones.
- سلكنا الفيافي والقفار على النجبWe crossed the wildernesses and barren deserts on noble camels;
- سمح الزمان بوصل ريم الأجرعTime has granted union with the white gazelle of al-Ajraʿ,
- شغف المحب بحب ظبية عامرThe lover is enraptured by love for the gazelle of ʿAmir,
- طالت لياليك والأيام يا صاحيLong have your nights and days stretched on, my friend.
- عجبا للمطمئنين بدنياI marvel at those who feel secure in a world
- عسى من بلانا بالبعاد يجودMay the one who afflicted us with separation be generous,
- على ميم وادي الرقمتين سلاميUpon Mim of the valley of al-Raqmatayn be my greeting,
- عليك بتقوى الله في السر والعلنHold fast to fear of God, in private and in public.
- غزال الحمى قلبي بحبك قد ملىO gazelle of the sanctuary, my heart is filled with love for you.
- فيم الركون إلى حقيقتهاWhy place trust in an abode whose true nature
- قد كفاني علم ربيMy Lord's knowledge has sufficed me,
- قصدت إلى العليا بهمة عاجزI sought the heights with a helpless man's resolve,
- قل لأحبابنا بسوح المقامTell our loved ones in the valleys of Al-Muqam,
- قل للذي قد لامنيSay to the one who has reproached me:
- كم بقلبي فيك من شجنHow much sorrow my heart holds for you,
- لا تجزعن إذا بليت بشدةDo not be dismayed when afflicted with hardship.
- لا تعش عن ذكر الإله فإنهDo not turn a blind eye to God's remembrance, for indeed He
- لا نسيم الصبا إذا هب وهناThe morning breeze when it blows gently,
- لجيران لنا بالأبطيحهTo neighbors of ours at al-Abtiha,
- لك الخير حدثني بطبية عامرGoodness upon you, inform me of the news of the populous Amir,
- لله أحبابنا بالأبرق العلمTo God belong our loved ones at al-Abraq, the landmark,
- ليس دين الله بالحبلGod's religion is not a rope.
- ليس هذا بعجيبThis is no surprise
- ما المنازل والمرابع لا تعيWhy do the dwellings and spring camps not heed
- ما بال جيراننا بالبانWhat ails our neighbors at al-Bān?
- ما حل قلبي ولا سكنNothing has settled in my heart or dwelt there
- ما طاب قلبي ولا فؤاديNeither my heart nor my inmost heart has found ease,
- ما في الوجود ولا في الكون من أحدThere is no one in existence or in the universe
- ما للفؤاد يفيض بالأكدارWhat ails the heart, overflowing with sorrows?
- مرت لنا بالحمى المأنوس أعيادFestive days once passed for us in the familiar sanctuary,
- مرحباً بالشادن الغزلWelcome to the coquettish young gazelle!
- مرحبا مرحبا بربع المصلىWelcome, welcome to the abode of al-Musalla,
- مستورة دار صبرMasturah is an abode of patience.
- مضى الصدق واهل الصدق يا سعد قد مضواTruthfulness has gone, and its people, O Sa'd, have passed away.
- من عاون الشيطان في ظلمهWhoever aids Satan in his wrongdoing
- من لم يبالي لم يبال بهWhoever does not care is not cared about.
- نحمد الله على الخير الكثيرWe praise God for abundant good:
- نحن في روح وراحهWe are in ease and comfort,
- نسمات الحي وهنا إذ سرتWhen the encampment's breezes drifted late at night,
- نسيم حاجر يا نسيم حاجرBreeze of Hajir, O breeze of Hajir,
- نعم عالم الأرواح خير من الجسمYes, the realm of spirits is better than the body,
- هبت رياح القرب والتدانيThe winds of nearness and drawing close have blown,
- هدى الله معشوق الجمال إلى الهدىMay God guide the one beloved for his beauty to guidance,
- هل للذي جد بالأظعان يا حاديO camel-driver, what of the one hurrying with the departing caravans?
- هواكم بقلبي والفؤاد مقيمLove for you abides in my heart and inmost heart.
- هون عليك نائب الدهرTake time's calamity lightly;
- واعف بفضلك سيدي واصفح عن الAnd grant pardon by Your grace, my Lord, and forgive the
- وصلنا إلى الحي الذي دون المنىWe reached the quarter that lies this side of our hopes.
- وصلي إلهي كل وقت وساعةAnd bestow blessings, O my God, at every moment and hour,
- وصيتي لك يا ذا الفضل والأدبMy counsel to you, O possessor of excellence and refinement,
- وكم محنة كابدتها وبليةAnd many an ordeal and affliction I endured,
- ولى الزمان وولت الأيامTime has passed, and the days have gone.
- ونبي الحمى من جانب الغور أبرقاAnd the Prophet of the sanctuary shone from the direction of al-Ghawr,
- يا أحمد الله بيسر كل ما قد تعسرO Ahmad, God will ease all that has grown difficult.
- يا آخذا مني بأذياليO you who seize me by my robe's hems,
- يا بهجة الحسن هل أراكO splendor of beauty, shall I see you?
- يا جميل إن سر الله علي الخلق باقO beautiful one, God's secret over creation endures.
- يا جيرة الحي من زردO neighbor of the neighborhood from agate
- يا جيرة بالمعهد اليمانيO neighbors at the Yemeni abode,
- يا خيرة الحي عليكم سلامO finest of the clan, peace be upon you,
- يا راحلاً إن جئت وادي المنحنىO traveler, if you come to the valley of al-Munhana,
- يا رب يا عالم الحالO Lord, O Knower of every state,
- يا ربنا يا ربناO our Lord, O our Lord,
- يا رحمة الله زوريO mercy of God, come visit,
- يا رسول الله يا أهل الوفاO Messenger of God, O faithful one,
- يا زائري حين لا واش من البشرO my visitor, when no tale-bearer among humankind is near,
- يا ساكنين نعمانO dwellers of Naʿmān,
- يا سائلي عن عبرتي ومداميO you who ask me about my weeping and flowing tears,
- يا سعد راح الوفى واهل وراح الجميلO Sa'd, faithfulness and its people are gone, and goodness is gone.
- يا سعد قف بي على الطلولO Saʿd, halt with me at the ruins,
- يا سعد قلبي حزينO Saad, my heart is sad
- يا صابرا اصبر وبشر من صبرO patient one, be patient, and give glad tidings to those who endure
- يا صاح قلبي ما سلا ولا طابO friend, my heart has found neither solace nor ease,
- يا صاحبي إن دمعي اليوم ينهملO my friend, today my tears pour forth,
- يا صاحبي وكنتما أنصاراO my two companions, you were both supporters,
- يا ظبي عيد ما في الحسن لك ثانيO gazelle of ʿId, you have no equal in beauty.
- يا قريب الفرج نسألك تجلي ذي الأكدارO You whose relief is near, we ask You to dispel these sorrows.
- يا قل لأحبابنا يا قل لجيرانO, tell our loved ones; O, tell the neighbors.
- يا من أرجي فيض فضلهO You whose overflowing bounty I hope for,
- يا من هواهم أقامO you whose love has come to dwell
- يا من هواهم في فؤادي مقيمO you whose love abides in my heart,
- يا منتهى الآمالO ultimate goal of hopes,
- يا نديمي فؤادي مرتهنO my boon companion, my heart is held in pledge.
- يا نسيم الأسحارO breeze of the predawn hours,
- يا نسيم الأطلالO breeze of the ruins,
- يا نسيم الصبا هل من نبأO breeze of the east wind, is there any news
