1. اللَه لا تشهد سواه ولا ترى

    إلاه في ملك وفي ملكوت

    God—witness none but Him, and see none

    But Him, in the visible realm and the unseen realm.

  2. سبحانه سبحانه من ماجد

    منفرد بالعز والجبروت

    Glory be to Him, glory be to Him—what a majestic One,

    Unique in might and overwhelming power.

  3. من قيداه قصوره وكلاله

    عن أن يراه قسمه بالمبتوت

    He whom his inadequacy and weariness have fettered

    From seeing Him—his lot is to be cut off.

  4. سافر إليه بهمة علوية

    حتى تراه وقل لنفسك موتي

    Journey to Him with lofty resolve

    Until you see Him, and tell your self, “Die!”

  5. وأقبل إليه بكل قلبك قاصداً

    محو الضلال أشير للناسوت

    And turn to Him with all your heart, intent on

    Effacing delusion—I mean human nature—

  6. بالشمس شمس الذات حتى لا يرى

    شيء سوى متقدس اللاهوت

    With the sun—the sun of the Essence—until nothing is seen

    But the all-holy Godhead.

  7. فان انتهيت إلى الذي عرفته

    شاهدت من عرش إلى بهموت

    If, then, you reach the One you have known,

    You will behold all, from the Throne to Bahamut.

  8. ورأيت سراً لم يجز إفشاءه

    أهل الهدى والكشف والتثبيت

    And you will see a secret whose disclosure was not permitted

    By the people of guidance, unveiling, and confirmation.

  9. إنا لنعلمه ولم نحظ به

    ذوقاً لما معنا من التشتيت

    We indeed know it, yet have not been favored with it

    Through tasting, because of the distraction within us.

  10. والشوق مني لا يزال منازعي

    والأمر بالتقدير والتوقيت

    And longing within me never ceases to contend with me,

    While the matter rests on decree and appointed timing.

  11. يا ليتني قد غبت عن هذا الورى

    ودعيت بالمستغرق المبهوت

    Oh, if only I had vanished from these mortals,

    And been called “the wholly absorbed, the awestruck.”

  12. ماذا عليَّ من الأنام وقولهم

    أن أدع بالمحبوب والممقوت

    What do I care for humankind and their talk,

    Whether I am called “beloved” or “detested”?

  13. حسبي إلهي والذي يختاره

    اللَه أكبر غار بحر الحوت

    My God suffices me, and whatever He chooses.

    God is greatest! The sea of the great fish has sunk away.
