How fare you, our loved ones in Bashar?

You are our kin, our protectors, and our neighbors.

May showers of rain pour generously upon you,

From the mercy of the Mighty Lord, in abundance.

How many loved ones, by God, follow loved ones,

    In their footsteps—masters and companions!

You are not the strangers; rather, we are strangers,

In this world, the abode of sorrows.

An abode of transience, an abode of delusion and falsehood.

It deceives none but the deluded servant,

Who has no insight and no light with him.

If he could see, he would take heed of those who have gone,

Of those who went to the dust and the graves,

From among the small and from among the great.

And after death comes resurrection in the gathering-places:

One group in Paradise, and another in the Fire.

O dwellers in the intermediate realms, may yours be a realm of safety,

And repose, fragrant herbs, and honor.

May the anguish of regret never enter you,

And may you remain forever in joy and light.

When, when, O our loved ones, shall we meet,

After such long absence and separation?

No one remains in this deceptive world,

And death is a gift to every chosen servant,

Who perseveres in obedience and contentment,

And in poverty, reverence, and hunger.

For courage is nothing but a moment's endurance,

And triumph in the hereafter is for every steadfast one.

And the grave is either a blissful garden,

    Yes—or else a hellish pit.

So act for yourself; do not be a beast,

That runs, unaware of how great the dangers are.

So may God have mercy on our gathering through His grace,

And not deal with us by the measure of His justice,

Through the blessing of the Guide, the last of His messengers,

Ahmad, leader of the foremost among the God-fearing.
