Let mention of Salma and Su'ad go round
Recall the memory of Salma and the memory of Saad
Within my hearing—perhaps the heart will grow clear,
To please my hearing and purify my heart

And grow calm, and its sorrows subside;
To calm it down and settle its passions
For within it is fire like that kindled by fire-sticks.
For in it is solace like the glow of ember

When the lover recalls a life now gone

Amongst the dwellings of loved ones in a good valley

When aridity leaves me fearing barrenness
