عَلَيكَ بِتَقوى اللَهِ في السِرِّ وَالعَلَنِ

عَلَيكَ بِتَقوى اللَهِ في السِرِّ وَالعَلَنِ

وَقَلبَكَ نَظِّفهُ مِنَ الرِجسِ وَالدَرَنِ

وَقَلبَكَ نَظِّفهُ مِنَ الرِجسِ وَالدَرَنِ

Hold fast to fear of God, in private and in public.

And cleanse your heart of filth and grime.

وَمُخالِفٍ هَوى النَفسِ الَّتي لَيسَ قَصدَها

وَمُخالِفٍ هَوى النَفسِ الَّتي لَيسَ قَصدَها

سِوى الجَمعِ لِلدارِ الَّتي حَشوُها المِحَنِ

سِوى الجَمعِ لِلدارِ الَّتي حَشوُها المِحَنِ

And resist the desires of the soul, whose aim is nothing

But amassing for the abode filled with afflictions.

وَاِصحَب ذَوي المَعروفِ وَالعِلمِ وَالهُدى

وَاِصحَب ذَوي المَعروفِ وَالعِلمِ وَالهُدى

وَجانِب وَلا تَصحَب هَدِيَّتَ مَنِ اِفتَتَنِ

وَجانِب وَلا تَصحَب هَدِيَّتَ مَنِ اِفتَتَنِ

And keep company with people of goodness, knowledge, and guidance.

And shun, and do not befriend—may you be guided—anyone who has succumbed to temptation.

فَإِن تَرضَ بِالمَقسومِ عِشتَ مُنَعَّماً

فَإِن تَرضَ بِالمَقسومِ عِشتَ مُنَعَّماً

وَإِن لَم تَكُن تَرضى بِهِ عِشتَ في حُزنِ

وَإِن لَم تَكُن تَرضى بِهِ عِشتَ في حُزنِ

For if you are content with your allotted share, you will live in comfort.

And if you are not content with it, you will live in sorrow.

وَصَلِّ بِقَلبٍ حاضِرٍ غَيرَ غافِلٍ

وَصَلِّ بِقَلبٍ حاضِرٍ غَيرَ غافِلٍ

وَلا تُلهَ عَن ذِكرِ المَقابِرِ وَالكَفَنِ

وَلا تُلهَ عَن ذِكرِ المَقابِرِ وَالكَفَنِ

And pray with an attentive heart, not a heedless one.

And do not be distracted from remembering the graves and the shroud.

وَما هَذِهِ الدُنيا بِدارِ إِقامَةٍ

وَما هَذِهِ الدُنيا بِدارِ إِقامَةٍ

وَما هِيَ إِلّا كَالطَريقِ إِلى الوَطَنِ

وَما هِيَ إِلّا كَالطَريقِ إِلى الوَطَنِ

And this world is no permanent abode,

And it is only like the road to one's homeland.

وَما الدارُ إِلّا جَنَّةٍ لِمَنِ اِتَّقى

وَما الدارُ إِلّا جَنَّةٍ لِمَنِ اِتَّقى

وَنارٌ لِمَن لَم يَتَّقِ اللَهِ فَاِسمَعنِ

وَنارٌ لِمَن لَم يَتَّقِ اللَهِ فَاِسمَعنِ

And the abode is but Paradise for those who fear God,

And a fire for those who do not fear God—so listen.

رَبِّ عامِلنا بِلُطفِكَ وَاِكفِنا

رَبِّ عامِلنا بِلُطفِكَ وَاِكفِنا

بِجودِكَ وَاِعصِمنا مِنَ الزيغِ وَالفِتَنِ

بِجودِكَ وَاِعصِمنا مِنَ الزيغِ وَالفِتَنِ

My Lord, treat us with Your gentleness and meet our needs

Through Your generosity, and protect us from deviation and trials.

وَوَفِّق وَسَدِّد وَأَصلِحِ الكُلَّ وَاِهدِنا

وَوَفِّق وَسَدِّد وَأَصلِحِ الكُلَّ وَاِهدِنا

لِسُنَّةِ خَيرِ الخَلقِ وَالسَيِّدُ الحُسنِ

لِسُنَّةِ خَيرِ الخَلقِ وَالسَيِّدُ الحُسنِ

And grant success, direct aright, set all aright, and guide us

To the way of the best of creation, the beautiful master.

عَلَيكَ صَلاةُ اللَهِ ثُمَّ سَلامُهُ

عَلَيكَ صَلاةُ اللَهِ ثُمَّ سَلامُهُ

صَلاةً وَتَسليماً إِلى آخِرِ الزَمَنِ

صَلاةً وَتَسليماً إِلى آخِرِ الزَمَنِ

Upon you be God's blessing, then His peace,

Blessings and salutations of peace until the end of time.
