غزال الحمى قلبي بحبك قد ملى

غزال الحمى قلبي بحبك قد ملى

فصدى حماك اللَه إن شئت أو صلى

فصدى حماك اللَه إن شئت أو صلى

O gazelle of the sanctuary, my heart is filled with love for you.

The gazelle of my love has wearied my heart with her love

Then turn away—may God protect you—if you wish, or unite with me.

Whether you wish to have mercy on me or pray for me

ولا تحسبي أني سلوتك لا ولا

ولا تحسبي أني سلوتك لا ولا

ولكنني أرضى بحكمك فاعقلي

ولكنني أرضى بحكمك فاعقلي

And do not think I have ceased to love you—no, never.

And do not think that I complained to you, no, never

But I am content with your decree, so understand.

Rather I am content with your judgment so be reasonable

تملك مني ظاهري وسرائري

تملك مني ظاهري وسرائري

وإن تجهلي يا قرة العين فاسألي

وإن تجهلي يا قرة العين فاسألي

You possess my outward self and my innermost secrets.

You have control over my exterior and my innermost secrets

And if you do not know, O delight of the eye, then ask.

And if you do not know, O joy of my eyes, then ask

لحا اللَه عذالي عليك ولومي

لحا اللَه عذالي عليك ولومي

فإنهم عني وعنك بمعزلي

فإنهم عني وعنك بمعزلي

May God curse those who reproach and blame me for loving you.

May Allah excuse my shortcomings toward you and my blaming

For they stand apart from me and from you.

For they blame me unjustly though they acted the same

يلومونني فيها وهم قد صبوا بها

يلومونني فيها وهم قد صبوا بها

ومن قال لا منهم فغير محصلي

ومن قال لا منهم فغير محصلي

They blame me for her, though they themselves have fallen in love with her.

And whoever amongst them says no has failed to ascertain

And whoever among them says no has no true understanding.

The charm of her beauty bought me long ago

خريدة حسن قد سباني جمالها

خريدة حسن قد سباني جمالها

قديماً وجسمي بين ماء وصلصل

قديماً وجسمي بين ماء وصلصل

A maiden of beauty—her loveliness has taken me captive

And my body was between water and quicksand

Long ago, while my body was between water and sounding clay.

May she be guided by the doctrine of Fate and Destiny

تنزلها من عالم الأمر والهدى

تنزلها من عالم الأمر والهدى

فكن مهتد كما تسود وتعتلي

فكن مهتد كما تسود وتعتلي

Her descent is from the realm of Command and guidance;

So become guided as you lead and rise

So be rightly guided as you gain eminence and rise.

And we bear witness that Allah is Majestic in His Greatness

ونشهد اللَه العظيم جلاله

ونشهد اللَه العظيم جلاله

وسطانه في كل طور ومحفل

وسطانه في كل طور ومحفل

And we behold God, great in His majesty,

And His Sovereignty in every state and gathering

And in His sovereignty, in every state and gathering.

Blessed is the Lord of the Throne, the Earth and the Skies

تبارك رب العرش والأرض والسما

تبارك رب العرش والأرض والسما

وكل البرايا من أخير وأول

وكل البرايا من أخير وأول

Blessed is the Lord of the Throne, the earth, and heaven,

And all the wildernesses from the last to the first

And of all creation, from the last to the first.

To Him belongs the creation and the command is obeyed

له الخلق والأمر المطاع فما يشا

له الخلق والأمر المطاع فما يشا

يكون على وفق المشيئة يا ولي

يكون على وفق المشيئة يا ولي

His are creation and the obeyed command; whatever He wills

Whatever He wills comes to pass by His bidding, O Guardian

Comes to be according to His will, O friend.

And what He does not will can never come to exist

وما لم يشأه لا يكون بلا مرا

وما لم يشأه لا يكون بلا مرا

فأيقن وجانب كل غار مضلل

فأيقن وجانب كل غار مضلل

And what He does not will cannot be, beyond dispute.

So believe and avoid every misleading ignorance

So be certain, and shun every deceiver who leads astray.

And ask your Lord for forgiveness, pardon and pleasure

وسل ربك الفران والعفو والرضا

وسل ربك الفران والعفو والرضا

وموتاً علي الإسلام ختم مهلل

وموتاً علي الإسلام ختم مهلل

And ask your Lord for forgiveness, pardon, and His pleasure,

And to die as a Muslim, concluded with success

And death in Islam, with a final proclamation of God's oneness.

If the trial of graves comes to ask me

إذا جاء فتانا القبورليسألا

إذا جاء فتانا القبورليسألا

فقل ربي اللَه العظيم وموئلي

فقل ربي اللَه العظيم وموئلي

When the two examiners of the graves come to question you,

Say: My Lord is Allah, the Supreme, and my destination

Then say: God, the Magnificent, is my Lord and refuge.

And say: My religion is Islam and my guide is Ahmad

وقل ديني الإسلام والهادي أحمد

وقل ديني الإسلام والهادي أحمد

نبي حبيب اللَه أفضل مرسل

نبي حبيب اللَه أفضل مرسل

And say: My religion is Islam, and my guide is Ahmad—

The beloved Prophet of Allah, the best of messengers

A prophet, beloved of God, the finest messenger.

If the dead are resurrected for merit and judgement

إذا بعث الأموات للفضل والقضا

إذا بعث الأموات للفضل والقضا

ووزن وجسر هائل ومقلقل

ووزن وجسر هائل ومقلقل

When the dead are raised for bounty and judgment,

And the mighty scale and trembling bridge

And there is weighing and a terrifying, unsettling bridge,

Say: My sufficiency is Allah, the Bountiful, for all that

فقل حسبي اللَه الكريم لكل ما

فقل حسبي اللَه الكريم لكل ما

أخاف وأخشى إذ عليه معولي

أخاف وأخشى إذ عليه معولي

Then say: God, the Generous, is enough for me against all that

I fear and dread as on Him I depend

I fear and dread, for on Him I rely.

And at my arrival to the Fire, I hope for salvation

وعند ورودي النار أرجو نجاته

وعند ورودي النار أرجو نجاته

برحمته واللَه خير مؤمل

برحمته واللَه خير مؤمل

And when I reach the Fire, I hope for deliverance from Him,

By His mercy, and Allah is the best to hope for

Through His mercy; God is the best in whom to place hope.

And for the righteous is the eternal Garden brought near

وللمتقين الجنة الخلد أزلفت

وللمتقين الجنة الخلد أزلفت

وفازوا بها من ماجد متفضل

وفازوا بها من ماجد متفضل

And for the God-fearing, the Garden of eternity has been brought near,

And they succeeded through glorious benevolence

And they have won it from a Glorious, Bountiful One.

So He granted them His gardens and bounties

فأورثهم جناته ونعيمها

فأورثهم جناته ونعيمها

بما عملوا من صالح متقبل

بما عملوا من صالح متقبل

So He gave them His gardens and their bliss as an inheritance,

For the righteous deeds they did, accepted

For the righteous, accepted deeds they had done.

And He guided them to good, then rewarded them

ووفقهم للخير ثم أثابهم

ووفقهم للخير ثم أثابهم

برضوانه عنهم وبالوطن العلى

برضوانه عنهم وبالوطن العلى

And He enabled them to do good, then rewarded them

With His approval and the Highest Realm

With His pleasure in them and with the lofty abode.

Wherein is nearness, everlasting kingship

منه القرب والملك الذي ليس ينقضي

منه القرب والملك الذي ليس ينقضي

مصفى من الأكدار من كل مشغل

مصفى من الأكدار من كل مشغل

From Him come nearness and dominion that never ends,

Pure from all worries and preoccupations

Purified of troubles and of every distraction.

And seeing the Lord of the Worlds, which is the goal

ورؤية رب العالمين هي المنى

ورؤية رب العالمين هي المنى

وغاية قصد القاصدين المكمل

وغاية قصد القاصدين المكمل

And seeing the Lord of all worlds is the cherished wish,

And destination of every accomplished seeker

And the consummate goal of the seekers' quest.

Of houris and young servants, spouse and servant

من الحور والولدان زوج وخادم

من الحور والولدان زوج وخادم

ومن ذهب والورق قصر لمنزل

ومن ذهب والورق قصر لمنزل

A spouse from the houris and a servant from the youths,

And homes of gold and silver for dwellings

And a palace of gold and silver for a dwelling.

And its rivers burst forth and springs flow

وأنهارها قد فجرت وعيونها

وأنهارها قد فجرت وعيونها

وفاكهة من كل قطف مذلل

وفاكهة من كل قطف مذلل

And its rivers and springs have been made to gush forth,

And fruits of every picked cluster made ready

And fruit from every cluster, made easy to reach.

So say, O servants of Allah, every faithful

فقل يا عباد اللَه من كل مؤمن

فقل يا عباد اللَه من كل مؤمن

تقى منيب خاشع متبتل

تقى منيب خاشع متبتل

So say: O servants of God, every believer,

Devout, humble, penitent believer

God-fearing, repentant, reverent, and wholly devoted—

Come to Allah the Bountiful, hasten

هلموا إلى اللَه الكريم وأسرعوا

هلموا إلى اللَه الكريم وأسرعوا

وسيروا على النهج القويم الموصل

وسيروا على النهج القويم الموصل

Come to God, the Generous, and hasten!

And walk the straight path that leads

And journey along the upright path that leads to Him.

And beware being like me, for I am confused

وإياكم مثلي فإني مخلط

وإياكم مثلي فإني مخلط

وقد مر عمري كله في تعلل

وقد مر عمري كله في تعلل

And beware of being like me, for I mix good deeds with bad.

And my life passed all in pretense and excuses

And my whole life has passed in making excuses,

And in desires not praiseworthy

وفي شهوات ليس يحمد غيها

وفي شهوات ليس يحمد غيها

وفي غفلات رخصة المتأول

وفي غفلات رخصة المتأول

And in passions whose waywardness wins no praise,

And in heedlessness, permitted by interpretations

And in heedless lapses, under an interpreter's dispensation.

But I hope in my God and Creator

ولكنني أرجو إلهي وخالقي

ولكنني أرجو إلهي وخالقي

وإن الرجا في اللَه حصني ومعقل

وإن الرجا في اللَه حصني ومعقل

But I place my hope in my God and Creator,

That hope in Allah is my fortress and refuge

And hope in God is indeed my fortress and stronghold.

And the Messenger of Allah came, our master

وجاء رسول اللَه سيدنا الذي

وجاء رسول اللَه سيدنا الذي

أتانا بآيات الكتاب المنزل

أتانا بآيات الكتاب المنزل

And God's Messenger came—our master, who

Who came to us with the verses of the Scripture revealed

Brought us the verses of the revealed Book.

Upon him, Allah's prayers and peace

عليه صلاة اللَه ثم سلامه

عليه صلاة اللَه ثم سلامه

وآلا وأصحاب كرام ومن يلي

وآلا وأصحاب كرام ومن يلي

Upon him be God's blessing, then His peace,

And his family, companions of honour and those after

And upon his family, noble companions, and those who follow—

From the successful followers, his followers

من التابعين المحسنين أتباعه

من التابعين المحسنين أتباعه

وأتباعهم في عاجل ومؤجل

وأتباعهم في عاجل ومؤجل

Among the virtuous Followers, his adherents—

And their followers, now and later

And their followers, now and in time to come.
