إلى أن أتانا الله بالفتح والنصر
And many an ordeal and affliction I endured,
How much affliction I have endured, and tribulation,
Until God brought us relief and victory.
Until God brought us victory and triumph.

I bore it patiently until its time had passed—
I was patient until its appointed time had passed,
The time appointed for it in prior knowledge and the record.
The time decreed by the All-Knowing, All-Wise.

And had I hastened to meet it as it ended,
Had I not anticipated its passing
With what the soul demands in the 'garb of ten' [unclear in Arabic],
With what was required to soothe the soul in youth's rapture,

Of blameworthy impatience, grief, and sorrow,
Of blameworthy anguish, sorrow and grief -
I would have added harm to my harm.
I would have brought harm upon harm.

سوى تعب في الحال يذهب بالأجر
And a person's impatience in a time of affliction
For man's anguish in times of tribulation
Is only present weariness that takes away the reward.
Is but futile toil that forfeits reward.

When God tests you, patience is His due
If God tries you, patience is your rightful duty;
From you; and if He favors you, your duty is gratitude.
If He favors you, gratitude is your right.

And whoever knows this world is certain that it
Whoever understands this world realizes
Is, beyond doubt, the abode of misery and evil.
It is undoubtedly the abode of woe and evil.

So a person must, throughout his life,
So man must be patient throughout his life,
And as long as he remains in it, hold fast to patience.
As long as he remains in it.

So blessed is a servant who has shunned its pleasures,
Happy is the servant who spurns its luxuries
And preferred a home whose goodness flows forever.
And prefers an abode whose goodness is everlasting -

For people who obeyed God in secret and in public.
For those who obeyed God openly and in secret.

Guides of humankind—blessed is a servant who has seen them
The Guides of mankind - happy is the servant who saw them
And sat with them, even once in his lifetime.
And sat with them even once in his life.
