O ultimate hope
And destination of seekers,
And goal of seekers
عبدكYour servant ضعيفweak الحالcondition
عبدك ضعيف الحال
الخائفthe fearful one المرتابthe doubting one
الخائف المرتاب
Your servant, in a state of weakness,
Your weak servant
Fearful and full of doubt,
Fearful and doubtful
أتاكhe has come to You خالfree البالthe mind
أتاك خال البال
عنof جملةall الأحبابthe loved ones
عن جملة الأحباب
Has come to You, his mind free
Came to you with a preoccupied mind
Of all his loved ones.
Away from all loved ones
ضاقتgrew constricted بهaround him الأحوالcircumstances
ضاقت به الأحوال
وخانتand betrayed الأسبابthe means
وخانت الأسباب
Circumstances closed in on him,
Life's circumstances narrowed
And the means betrayed him.
And causes failed him
لمdid not يدرknow ماwhat يصنعto do
لم يدر ما يصنع
منfrom شدةthe intensity of الحيرةbewilderment
من شدة الحيرة
He did not know what to do,
He knew not what to do
From his intense bewilderment.
In his great confusion
عمرهhis life مضىhas passed أجمعall of it
عمره مضى أجمع
فيin السعيstriving والدورهand circling about
في السعي والدوره
His entire life has passed
His life passed altogether
In striving and circling about.
Seeking and wandering
والوقتand time قدalready ضيعhe wasted
والوقت قد ضيع
فيin خدمةservice of الصورهthe outward form
في خدمة الصوره
And he has wasted his time
And time was wasted
In serving the outward form.
In service of appearances
والآنand now قلبهhis heart مالhas turned
والآن قلبه مال
إلىto لزومremaining at البابthe door
إلى لزوم الباب
And now his heart has turned
But now his heart is inclined
To remaining at the door.
To hold fast to the door
وصرفand he turned همthe concern of السرthe inner self
وصرف هم السر
عنaway from خدمةservice of الأجسامbodies
عن خدمة الأجسام
And he has turned his innermost concern
And divert his innermost thoughts
Away from serving bodies,
From serving bodies
معwith اعتناقembracing البرrighteousness
مع اعتناق البر
والتركand forsaking للآثامof sins
والترك للآثام
Along with embracing righteousness
While embracing righteousness
And forsaking sins.
And leaving sins
ياO ربناour Lord يسرmake easy
يا ربنا يسر
لهfor him الذيwhat قدalready رامhe sought
له الذي قد رام
O our Lord, make easy
O our Lord, facilitate
For him what he has sought.
What he has sought
ياO دائمeverlasting in الأفضالbounties
يا دائم الأفضال
ياO برBeneficent One ياO توابEver-Accepting of repentance
يا بر يا تواب
O You whose bounties never cease,
O Ever-Bountiful
O Beneficent One, O Accepter of repentance.
O Kind O Relenting
