    تَجِدُّ بنا الاشواق لا حادي الرَكب

    We crossed the wildernesses and barren deserts on noble camels;

    Our longings urge us onward, not the caravan's driver.

    So we hasten toward him at evening and through what

    Follows it of the pitch-dark night, upon the camel saddles.

    It delights us that sleep brings us no delight,

    Because of the pure love that has mingled with our souls.

    And it cools the burning heat of noon, intensified

    By scorching winds that, when they rage, shake the 'books' [unclear reading].

    And this remained our habit and our practice,

    Until we made the pale camels kneel at the spacious lodging.

    نَبي الهُدى بَحر النَدى سَيد العَرَب

    We alighted with the best of all beings, Muhammad,

    Prophet of guidance, sea of bounty, master of the Arabs;

    وَسَيد مَن يَأتي وَمَن مَرَ في الحقب

    A trustworthy messenger, a revered Hashimite,

    And master of those yet to come and those who passed through the ages;

    كَريم السَجايا طَيب الجسم وَالقَلب

    Refuge of creation, succor of every hopeful soul;

    Noble in character, pure in body and heart;

    يُرجى لِكشف البُؤس وَالضَر وَالكَرب

    Generous, forbearing, whose way is bounty and faithfulness;

    Looked to for relieving misery, harm, and anguish;

    وَأَرسَلَهُ داع إِلى الفَوز بِالقُرب

    Merciful: God fashioned him as a mercy for creation,

    And sent him as a caller to triumph through nearness;

    And sent him with truth, honesty, and guidance,

    And with bestowing bounty, gentleness, and sweet speech.

    Through him God saved us from polytheism and perdition,

    And from Satan's works, sorcery, and idols.

    And brought us into the best religion, which He loves

    And approves—the religion of truth; so praise be to the Lord.

    His is the greatest favor upon us, in sending him

    To us and from among us, exalted in renown and rank.

    A prophet great in character—the character

    That the All-Merciful extolled in him in the foremost of books.

    وَأَملاكُهُ وَالمُؤمِنين وِبِالرُعب

    And He strengthened him with revelation, victory, and the east wind,

    And with His angels and the believers, and with terror;

    And with manifest miracles that grew

    Beyond the raindrops in number, after every prophet.

    And He gave him a Qur'an that rendered creation unable to match it,

    All of them, to uphold him—what a triumph!

    Behold, O Messenger of God, indeed we are kinsfolk

    And descendants; we have come to you out of longing and love.

    We have stood facing the face—a face blessed

    For us, through which we receive rain from the clouds in drought.

    We have come to you as visitors seeking intercession

    With God, for the erasing of wrongdoing and sin.

    Delegations, visitors, and guests of a court

    Honored, a dwelling-place of generosity and abundance.

    And in the soul are needs, and there are requests

    We hope you will fulfill through your standing, O you who love me.

    Turn in intercession, Messenger of God, for every need

    Of ours, and every concern of livelihood and heart.

    And indeed, the soundness of religion and heart, my master,

    Is the highest aim; so, my master, take care of me.

    God's blessings upon you, O best of those who recited

    A radiant Book that brought obligations and recommended acts.

    God's blessings upon you, O best of the rightly guided

    And of guides by God's light, in East and West.

    God's blessings upon you, O best of those who called

    To God, after gentleness, with tawny spears and swords.

    God's blessings upon you, O master who journeyed by night

    To God, until he passed through the seven heavens and the veils.

    And stood at 'or nearer'—what exaltation,

    And glory that rose until it towered above the bright stars!

    God's peace upon you, whenever a sincere devotee journeys

    To you, saying, 'God and the Chosen One suffice me.'

    God's peace upon you, whenever the east wind comes at dawn,

    And so stirs lovers' souls toward nearness.

    God's peace upon you, whenever lightning travels by night,

    And whenever birds sing amid the sweet reeds.

    God's peace upon you, whenever camel-song stirs

    Hearts toward a dwelling with longing and attraction.

    God's peace upon you, as numerous as the plants and the

    Sands, and as numerous as raindrops in their pouring.

    God's peace upon you; you are our refuge in times of

    Prosperity and poverty, ease and difficulty.

    God's peace upon you; you are our beloved

    And our master and treasure, O best of prophets.

    God's peace upon you; you are our imam

    And the one we follow, the treasure and the succor in calamity.

    And may God bless you continually and forever,

    And grant peace, O Chosen One, to you, your family, and companions.
