يا ساكنين نعمان

عطفاً على المكروب
O dwellers of Naʿmān,
O dwellers of Nu'man
Show compassion to the grief-stricken,
Have mercy on the distressed
الهائمthe wandering lover الولهانthe lovesick one
الهائم الولهان
الذاهلthe bewildered one المغلوبthe overwhelmed one
الذاهل المغلوب
The wandering, lovesick one,
The bewildered, the infatuated
Distraught and overwhelmed,
The heedless, the overpowered
منone whose دمعهhis tears شنانstreaming profusely
من دمعه شنان
فيon خدهhis cheek مسكوبpoured out
في خده مسكوب
Whose tears stream forth,
Whose tears flow
Poured upon his cheek,
Down his cheeks
منfrom فرقةseparation الأوطانthe homelands
من فرقة الأوطان
والشادنand the young gazelle الرعوبthe timid one
والشادن الرعوب
From parting with his homelands
For the separation from homelands
And the timid young gazelle.
And the adversity of parting
ذاكthat one الذيwho حبهlove for him فيin مهجتيmy inmost heart ساكنdwelling
ذاك الذي حبه في مهجتي ساكن
وبغيتيand my desire قربهnearness to him والكلand all لهtoward him راكنleaning
وبغيتي قربه والكل له راكن
That is the one whose love dwells in my inmost heart.
He whom I love dwells in my heart
And my desire is nearness to him, and all lean toward him.
I long for his nearness though all depend on him
اللَهGod يسرعhastens بهwith him للشيقto the yearning lover الساهنthe languishing one
اللَه يسرع به للشيق الساهن
تسكنsubside بهthrough him الأشجانsorrows ويحصلand is attained المطلوبwhat is sought
تسكن به الأشجان ويحصل المطلوب
May God bring him swiftly to the yearning, languishing lover.
May God hasten his return to the bosom friend
Through him sorrows subside, and what is sought is attained.
To comfort the hearts and attain what is sought
متىwhen متىwhen ياO صاحfriend تقضيyou fulfill لناfor us الأوطاراwishes
متى متى يا صاح تقضي لنا الأوطارا
منof راحةcomfort أنسintimate fellowship الحمىthe sanctuary والجارand the neighbor
من راحة أنس الحمى والجار
When, when, O friend, will you fulfill our wishes
When, when O companion will our stay end
For the comfort of fellowship with the sanctuary and the neighbor,
With the intimacy of beloved ones and neighbors
وتكملand become complete الأفراحjoys وتنجليand clear away الأكدارtroubles
وتكمل الأفراح وتنجلي الأكدار
ياO ربLord ياO رحمنMost Merciful فرجlift distress عنfrom المكروبthe grief-stricken one
يا رب يا رحمن فرج عن المكروب
And will joys become complete, and troubles clear away?
That joy be fulfilled and sorrows dispelled
O Lord, O Most Merciful, lift distress from the grief-stricken.
O Lord, O Merciful relieve the distressed
واجبرand mend لهfor him كسرهhis brokenness وأصلحand set right لهfor him أمرهhis affairs
واجبر له كسره وأصلح له أمره
وأطلقand release لهfor him سرهhis inner secret واشرحand expand لهfor him صدرهhis breast
وأطلق له سره واشرح له صدره
And mend his brokenness, and put his affairs right.
Mend his brokenness and set right his affairs
And set his inner secret free, and expand his breast.
Release his secret and expand his chest
واشددand strengthen لهfor him أزرهhis back (strength) واغفرand forgive لهfor him وزرهhis burden of sin
واشدد له أزره واغفر له وزره
ياO دائمconstant in الإحسانbeneficence شكركthanks to You عليناincumbent upon us الدؤوبunceasing
يا دائم الإحسان شكرك علينا الدؤوب
And strengthen his back, and forgive him his burden of sin.
Support him and forgive his sins
O Ever-Bountiful, unceasing thanks to You are our duty.
O Ever-Bountiful our thanks are ceaseless
