أبرق الحمى وقت السحير تلوّح

وتغدو نسيمات الصبا وتروّح

وتغدو نسيمات الصبا وتروّح

O lightning of the sanctuary, you flash in the hour before dawn.

The fever flashed at dawn, waving,

And breezes of the east wind come morning and evening.

And the morning breezes blow gently.

فتذكرني نجداً سقى اللّه دوحها

فتذكرني نجداً سقى اللّه دوحها

ملثاً بأكناف الرياض تسيح

ملثاً بأكناف الرياض تسيح

So you remind me of Najd—may God water its spreading trees

They remind me of Najd, may Allah water its sands,

With steady rain flowing along the gardens' edges,

Filled with the skirts of meadows roaming freely.

وأنبتها زرعاً وعشباً مزهراً

وأنبتها زرعاً وعشباً مزهراً

بأزهاره ريح الجنوب تفوح

بأزهاره ريح الجنوب تفوح

And make crops and flowering grass grow there.

He made it grow crops and flowering plants,

The south wind is fragrant with its blossoms.

With its flowers the southern wind diffuses fragrance.

مراتع أحباب لنا شط دارهم

مراتع أحباب لنا شط دارهم

وقل مزار والوداد صحيح

وقل مزار والوداد صحيح

The pastures of dear friends of ours, whose home lies far away;

Pastures of loved ones whose homes are on the shore,

Visits are few, yet affection remains true.

And a seldom visited shrine, and true affection.

هم يسألوا عنا ونسأل عنهم

هم يسألوا عنا ونسأل عنهم

ونرجو وصالاً والزمان شحيح

ونرجو وصالاً والزمان شحيح

They ask after us, and we ask after them.

They ask about us and we ask about them,

And we hope for reunion, though time is miserly.

And we hope for reunion but time is stingy.

ونبكي عليهم إن ويبكون مثلنا

ونبكي عليهم إن ويبكون مثلنا

بدمع بأرجاء الخدود سفوح

بدمع بأرجاء الخدود سفوح

And we weep for them—indeed—and they weep as we do,

We cry for them if they cry like us,

With tears streaming over the expanses of the cheeks.

With tears flowing down flushed cheeks.

علسى اللَه نرجو اللَه يجمع شملنا

علسى اللَه نرجو اللَه يجمع شملنا

وكل لكل في الوداد نصوح

وكل لكل في الوداد نصوح

May God—we put our hope in God—bring us together.

Perhaps Allah will bring us together again,

And each is sincere toward the other in affection.

And each will be sincere to each in affection.

وأنا وهم تحت المقدر والقضا

وأنا وهم تحت المقدر والقضا

وميزان من يرضى القضاء رجيح

وميزان من يرضى القضاء رجيح

And I and they are subject to fate and decree;

While me and them are under destiny and decree,

And weighty is the balance of whoever accepts the decree.

And the balance weighs heavy for those who accept fate.

لفي دار دنيا قد أحاط بناالفنا

لفي دار دنيا قد أحاط بناالفنا

ومن لم يكن يغد وفسوف يروح

ومن لم يكن يغد وفسوف يروح

We are indeed in a worldly abode; annihilation has encompassed us.

For in the house of temporal life, death has surrounded us,

And whoever does not depart in the morning will depart in the evening.

And those who do not depart today will leave tomorrow.

فغايتنا موت وقبر وبرزخ

فغايتنا موت وقبر وبرزخ

وبعث إلى الرب الكريم صريح

وبعث إلى الرب الكريم صريح

So our destination is death, a grave, and the intermediate realm,

Our end is death, grave and purgatory,

And a manifest resurrection to the generous Lord.

And resurrection to the Generous Lord.

فنحشر جمعاً للحساب وللجزا

فنحشر جمعاً للحساب وللجزا

ونرجو سماحاً والكريم سموح

ونرجو سماحاً والكريم سموح

Then we shall be gathered together for reckoning and recompense.

We will all gather for judgement and reward,

And we hope for clemency, for the Generous One is forgiving.

And we hope for leniency for the Lord is clement.

ونسأله ستراً وعفواً ورحمةً

ونسأله ستراً وعفواً ورحمةً

وصفحاً فخير الراحمين صفوح

وصفحاً فخير الراحمين صفوح

And we ask Him for the covering of our faults, pardon, and mercy,

We ask Him for concealment, pardon and mercy,

And forgiveness, for the best of the merciful is ever-forgiving.

And forgiveness for the Best of forgivers is clement.

ويدخلنا الجناب فضلاً ومنة

ويدخلنا الجناب فضلاً ومنة

وينجي من النيران وهي لفوح

وينجي من النيران وهي لفوح

And may He admit us to His court through grace and favor,

And to admit us to Paradise by His grace and favor,

And save us from the fires, which are scorching.

And save us from the furnace whose heat is intense.

ويشفع فينا أحمد سيد الورى

ويشفع فينا أحمد سيد الورى

نبي الهدى فالجاه ثم فسيح

نبي الهدى فالجاه ثم فسيح

And may Ahmad, master of creation, intercede for us,

And to intercede for us Ahmad the Master of Men,

The Prophet of guidance—for his standing there is vast.

The Prophet of guidance whose glory is matchless.

عليه صلاة اللَه ثم سلامه

عليه صلاة اللَه ثم سلامه

متى لاح برق أو تنسم ريح

متى لاح برق أو تنسم ريح

Upon him be God's blessing, then His peace,

Upon him be Allah's prayers and peace

Whenever lightning flashes or a wind breathes.

Whenever lightning flashes or wind blows gently.
