I lamented the days of my life that have passed away.

So, ah for them—if only they would return!

I would store goodness in them and gain its reward,

when a person is recompensed for what he used to do.

Indeed, those given to error and doubt supposed that they

when buried, would not be raised to be questioned.

So away with them! How wretched their minds were!

Would my Lord create this creation and neglect it?

So resurrection, Hellfire, and Paradise are inevitable,

and bliss for whoever judges by truth and acts justly,

and punishment for whoever does not fear God, his Lord,

and scornfully neglects what is due to his Master.
