لم يزل في لج فكرته
راكباًriding للهوtoward diversion والخطرand peril
راكباً للهو والخطر
He has remained in the deep sea of his thought,
His thoughts never ceased storming
riding toward diversion and peril,
Riding fanciful waves and peril
سابحاًswimming فيin برthe land of معتبرa thinker
سابحاً في بر معتبر
ويحalas for مقصورone confined علىto الفكرthought
ويح مقصور على الفكر
swimming in a thinker's land—
Swimming in a revered sea
alas for one confined to thought!
Woe to the one restricted to thought
هكذاthus فيthroughout طولthe length of مدتهhis lifetime
هكذا في طول مدته
طائفاًwandering فيin الحادثthe created world الدثرthe decaying
طائفاً في الحادث الدثر
Thus, throughout his lifetime,
For so long in his lifespan
wandering in the decaying, created world.

أين علم الكشف من نظر

How far is knowledge of unveiling from reflection!
Where is the knowledge of revelation compared to sight
How far is the eye's seeing from a report!
Where is the vision of the eye compared to news

وانخفاضاًand below فارمthen cast بالبصرwith the gaze
وانخفاضاً فارم بالبصر
Where, where are the overlooked things, on high
Where are the neglected heights
and below? Cast your gaze.
And the lowering of sights
إنindeed سرthe secret of اللَهGod مستترhidden
إن سر اللَه مستتر
فيin جميعall الكونthe cosmos والبشرand humankind
في جميع الكون والبشر
Indeed, God's secret is hidden
Verily the secret of God lies hidden
in all the cosmos and humankind.

فاقطعso cut through الحجبthe veils الكثيفةthe dense بالسيby journey-

So cut through the dense veils by journey-
Cut through the thick veils with steadfastness
ing away from them, without stopping short.
Not distracted by them
واقطعand cut through الحجبthe veils اللطيفthe subtle بالسيby journey-
واقطع الحجب اللطيف بالسي
ر-ing فيهاwithin them غيرwithout مغتررbeing beguiled
ر فيها غير مغترر
And cut through the subtle veils by journey-
And the subtle veils with sincerity
ing within them, without being beguiled.
Not fooled by them
فإذاthen when جاوزتyou have passed beyond مرتقياًascending
فإذا جاوزت مرتقياً
سدرةthe lote-tree of الأسرارsecrets والقدرand destiny
سدرة الأسرار والقدر
Then, when you have passed beyond, ascending,
And when you transcend climbing
the lote-tree of secrets and destiny,
The Lote Tree of the Ultimate Boundary
فتوقفthen stop وانتظرand await علماًknowledge
فتوقف وانتظر علماً
منfrom علومthe sciences of الأمرthe Command وادكرand remember
من علوم الأمر وادكر
then stop and await knowledge
Then stop and wait for a knowledge
from the sciences of the Command, and remember.

واحتفظand hold fast بالشرعto the sacred law وابغيand seek بهthrough it
واحتفظ بالشرع وابغي به
حكمthe judgment of ربthe Lord of العرشthe Throne فيin الصورthe forms
حكم رب العرش في الصور
And hold fast to the sacred law, and seek through it
And hold fast to Sacred Law and seek through it
