- أرى المقادير تعمل العملاI see fate working its work

- أرى صاحب الدنيا بها حيثما أماI see the owner of the world in it wherever I go
- أرى قوما وجوههم حسانI see a people whose faces are beautiful
- أزف أبكار أشعاري إليك فما
- أسرع في نقص امرئ تمامهThe Fastest Decline of a Man is His Perfection
- أسرى إليه الردى في حلبة القدر
- أسعداني بالدمع يا عينياAs'adani bil-dam'i ya 'ayniya
- أسفت لفقد الأصمعي لقد مضىI Longed for Al-Asma'i After He Passed Away
- اسلك من الطرق المناهجTake the straight paths
- إسمع إلى الأحكام تحملهاListen to the Judgments You Bear
- إسمع فقد آذنك الصوتListen, for the voice has called to you
- أسيدتي هاتي فديتك ما جرميMy mistress, for your sake I sacrifice myself, what was my crime
- أشاقك من أرض العراق طلولYour longing reached me from the land of Iraq

- أصبحت مغلوبا على عقليI have become overwhelmed in my mind
- أصبحتُ والله في مضيقI became, by God, in a predicament
- أَصبحت يا دار الأذىYou have become, O house of sorrow
- اصبر على نوب الزمانHave patience with the vicissitudes of time
- اصبر لدهر نال منPatience for Time's Afflictions
- اصبر لكل مصيبة وتجلد
- أضحت قبورهم من بعد عزهمTheir graves after their glory
- أضيع من العمر ما في يدي

- من أحب الدنيا تحير فيها
- من احس لي أهل القبور ومن رأىMy Moon Rises over the Graveyard
- من الناس ميت وهو حي بذكرهThere are people dead whilst still alive through memory of them
- من تراب خلقت لا شك فيهYou were created from dust, there is no doubt in that
- من جعل الدهر على بالهHe Who Takes Time to Heart
- من سابق الدهر كبا كبوةFrom Early Times, Big Deals
- من سالم الناس سلمWho Greeted People, Greeted
- من شرف الفقر ومن فضله
- من صدق الحب لأحبابهTrue Love for Loved Ones
- من كان يزعم أن سيكتم حبهWhoever Claims to Conceal His Love
- من لعبد أذله مولاهMy Master Has Humbled His Slave
- من لقلب متيم مشتاقLonging Heart
- من لم يذق لصبابة طعماWhoever has not tasted the sweetness of youth
- من لم يعظه التجريب والأدبWho is not taught by experience and manners
- من نافس الناس لم يسلم من الناسWhoever competes with people will not be safe from people
- من يعش يكبر ومن يكبر يمتHe Who Lives Will Grow Old, and He Who Grows Old Will Die
- منجاب مات بدائهThe Sparrow Died of its Disease
- مؤاخاة الفتى البطر البطينFriendship of the Young Hero of Batr Al-Batayn

- نعمر الدنيا وما الدنWe build this world and it builds not us

- نغص الموت كل لذة عيشThe Sting of Death Spoils All Joys of Life
- نفسي بشيء من الدنيا معلقةMy soul is attached to something of this world

- هل على نفسه امرؤ محزونDoes the Soul Have Sorrow Unto Itself
- هل عند أهل القبور من خبر
- هم القاضي بيت يطربHomesick
- هن ينتقينناThey Choose Us
- هو التنقل من يوم إلى يومHe Moves from Day to Day
- هو الله هو اللهHe is Allah, He is Allah
- هو الموت فاصنع كلما أنت صانعIt is Death, So Do All That You Can
- هون عليك العيش صفحا يهنTake it easy, life is too short to hold grudges
- هي الأيام والعبر
- هي النفس لا أعتاض عنها بغيرهاIt is the soul, I do not replace it with another
- وأحببت من حبها الباخلين
- وإذا الجبان رأى الأسنة شرعا

- وكأن من دفنته أيد في الثرىAnd As If Those Who Buried Him Had Hands In The Soil
- وكلفتني ما حلت بيني وبينهYou commanded me with what stood between me and it
- وكما تبلى وجوه في الثرىAs You Wish
- ولا خير فيمن لا يوطن نفسهThere is no good in one who does not make himself at home
- ولا زوردية تزهو بزرقتهاMy Friend
- ولربما حذر الفتىPerhaps the Young Man Was Cautious
- ولست بمفراح إذا الدهر سرني
- ولقد تنسمت الرياح لحاجتيThe Breezes Have Smelled My Yearning
