رَضيتُ بِبَعضِ الذُلِّ خَوفَ جَميعِهِ

وَلَيسَ لِمِثلي بِالمُلوكِ يَدانِ

I chose to bear some humiliation for fear of all of it,

And the likes of me cannot contend with kings.

وَكُنتُ امرَأً أَخشى العِقابَ وَأَتَّقي

مَغَبَّةَ ما تَجني يَدي وَلِساني

I was a man who feared punishment and was cautious,

Of the troubles caused by my hands and tongue.

وَلَو أَنَّني عَنَدتُ صاحِبَ قُدرَةٍ

لَعَرَّضتُ نَفسي صَولَةَ الحَدَثانِ

If only I had a lord of power,

I would have exposed myself to youthful impulse.

فَهَل مِن شَفيعٍ مِنكَ يَضمَنُ تَوبَتي

فَإِنّي امرُؤٌ أُفي بِكُلِّ ضَمانِ

Is there no intercessor from You to guarantee my repentance?

For I am a man who honors every guarantee.
