1. سُبحانَ عَلّامِ الغُيوبِ

    عَجَباً لِتَصريفِ الخُطوبِ

    Glory be to the Knower of all hidden things.

    How wondrous are the workings of calamities!

  2. تَعرو فُروعَ الآمِنيـ

    ـنَ وَتَجتَني ثَمَرَ القُلوبِ

    They assail the branches of those who feel secure,

    and pluck the fruit of hearts.

  3. حَتّى مَتى يا نَفسُ تَغ

    تَرّينَ بِالأَمَلِ الكَذوبِ

    How long, O soul, will you let

    false hope deceive you?

  4. يا نَفسُ توبي قَبلَ أَن

    لا تَستَطيعي أَن تَتوبي

    O soul, repent before

    you can no longer repent.

  5. وَاستَغفِري لِذُنوبِكِ الرَ

    حمَنَ غَفّارَ الذُنوبِ

    And for your sins, seek forgiveness from

    the All-Merciful, the great Forgiver of sins.

  6. أَمّا الحَوادِثُ فَالرِيا

    حُ بِهِنَّ دائِمَةُ الهُبوبِ

    As for calamities, their

    winds are forever blowing.

  7. وَالمَوتُ خَلقٌ واحِدٌ

    وَالخَلقُ مُختَلِفُ الضُروبِ

    Death is a single created thing,

    while created beings are of differing kinds.

  8. وَالسَعيُ في طَلَبِ التُقى

    مِن خَيرِ مُكتَسَبِ الكَسوبِ

    And striving in pursuit of piety

    is among the finest gains an earner may earn.

  9. وَلَقَلَّ ما يَنجو الفَتى الـ

    ـمَحمودُ مِن لَطخِ العُيوبِ

    And seldom does the young man—the

    praiseworthy one—escape the stain of faults.
