أَيا إِخوَتي آجالُنا تَتَقَرَّبُ
وَنَحنُ مَعَ اللاهينَ نَلهو وَنَلعَبُ
O my brothers, our lives draw near their end
While we amid the heedless ones rejoice and sport.
أُعَدِّدُ أَيّامي وَأُحصي حِسابَها
وَما غَفلَتي عَمّا أَعُدُّ وَأَحسُبُ
I count my days and reckon up their sum,
Yet my forgetfulness proceeds to count and reckon.
غَداً أَنا مِن ذا اليَومِ أَدنى إِلى الفَنا
وَبَعدَ غَدٍ أَدنى إِلَيهِ وَأَقرَبُ
Tomorrow I shall be yet nearer to decay
And drawing after that yet nearer to decay.
