1. لا تَفخَرَنَّ بِلِحيَةٍ

    كَثُرَت مَنابِتُها طَويلَة

    Do not boast of a beard

    Whose thick growth is lengthy

  2. تَهوي بِها هُوَجُ الرِيا

    حِ كَأَنَّها ذَنَبُ الحَسيلَة

    By it pretensions are blown

    As if it were a tail of misery

  3. قَد يُدرِكُ الشَرَفَ الفَتى

    يَوماً وَلِحيَتُهُ قَليلَة

    The young man may attain glory

    One day though his beard be scanty
