1. O how many a desire, indulged for an hour, has left

    the one who gratified it long sorrow in the Hereafter.

  2. Through it, affliction upon him grew immense, though

    the one who preferred it, to his misery, gained but little.

  3. So when a desire calls you to sin,

    then let your gaze find a path toward heaven.

  4. And fear God, for He is watching you;

    your Lord suffices as deterrent and questioner.

  5. What will you say tomorrow when you meet Him,

    when called to account for sins both small and great?

  6. Never rest your hopes on pardon, for such hope

    has deceived hearts and led reason astray.
