1. المَنايا تَجوسُ كُلَّ البِلادِ

    وَالمَنايا تُفني جَميعَ العِبادِ

    Death prowls all the lands

    And death destroys all the slaves

  2. لَتَنالَنَّ مِن قُرونٍ أَراها

    مِثلَ ما نِلنَ مِن ثَمودٍ وَعادِ

    It will take from generations I see

    As it took from Thamud and Aad

  3. هُنَّ أَفنَينَ مَن مَضى مِن نِزارٍ

    هُنَّ أَفنَينَ مَن مَضى مِن إِيادِ

    They destroyed those past of Nizar

    They destroyed those past of Iyad

  4. هَل تَذَكَّرتَ مَن خَلا مِن بَني سا

    سانَ أَربابِ فارِسٍ وَالسَوادِ

    Do you remember those who passed of Bani Assa

    Masters of Persia and the plains

  5. هَل تَذَكَّرتَ مَن مَضى مِن بَني الأَص

    فَرِ أَهلِ القِبابِ كَالأَوطادِ

    Do you remember those who passed of Bani Al-Asfar

    The people of domes like pegs

  6. أَينَ أَينَ النَبِيُّ صَلّى عَلَيهِ ال

    لَهُ مِن مُهتَدٍ رَشيدٍ وَهادِ

    Where, where is the Prophet, peace be upon him

    Who has guided, righteous guides

  7. أَينَ داوُودُ أَينَ أَينَ سُلَيما

    نُ المَنيعُ الأَعراضِ وَالأَجنادِ

    Where is David, where, where is Solomon

    The formidable, honorable and armies

  8. راكِبُ الريحِ قاهِرُ الجِنِّ وَالإِن

    سِ بِسُلطانِهِ مُذِلُّ الأَعادي

    Rider of the wind, subduer of jinn and mankind

    With his power, humiliator of enemies

  9. أَينَ نُمرودُ وَاِبنُهُ أَينَ قارو

    نُ وَهامانُ ذو الأَوتادِ

    Where is Nimrod and his son, where is Karun

    And Haman of stakes

  10. إِنَّ في ذِكرِنا لَهُم لِاِعتِباراً

    وَدَليلاً عَلى سَبيلِ الرَشادِ

    Verily in remembering them is a lesson

    And evidence of the path of guidance

  11. وَرَدوا كُلُّهُم حِياضَ المَنيا

    ثُمَّ لَم يَصدِروا عَنِ الإيرادِ

    They all entered the basin of death

    Then did not leave the revenue

  12. أَيُّها المُزمِعُ الرَحيلَ عَنِ الدُن

    يا تَزَوَّد لِذاكَ مِن خَيرِ زادِ

    O you who are leaving the world

    Take provision of the best provision

  13. لَتَنالَنَّكَ اللَيالي وَشيكاً

    بِالمَنايا فَكُن عَلى اِستِعدادِ

    The nights will take you soon

    With death so be prepared

  14. أَتَناسَيتَ أَم نَسيتَ المَنايا

    أَنَسيتَ الفِراقَ لِلأَولادِ

    Did you forget or forget death

    Did you forget the separation of children

  15. أَنَسيتَ القُبورَ إِذ أَنتَ فيها

    بَينَ ذُلٍّ وَوَحشَةٍ وَاِنفِرادِ

    Did you forget the graves while you are in them

    Between humiliation, loneliness and solitude

  16. أَيُّ يَومٍ يَومُ السِباقِ وَإِذ أَن

    تَ تُنادى فَما تُجيبُ المُنادي

    What day is the day of the race and you

    Are called but do not answer the caller

  17. أَيُّ يَومٍ يَومُ الفِراقِ وَإِذ نَف

    سُكَ تَرقى عَنِ الحَشا وَالفُؤادِ

    What day is the day we part and your

    Soul ascends from the guts and heart

  18. أَيُّ يَومٍ يَومُ الفِراقِ وَإِذ أَن

    تَ مِنَ النَزعِ في أَشَدِّ الجِهادِ

    What day is the day we part and you

    Are in the throes of mighty struggle

  19. أَيُّ يَومٍ يَومُ الصُراخِ وَإِذ يَل

    طِمنَ حُرَّ الوُجوهِ وَالأَجيادِ

    What day is the day of screaming and heated

    Faces of the noble and brave scream

  20. باكِياتٍ عَلَيكَ يَندُبنَ شَجواً

    خافِقاتِ القُلوبِ وَالأَكبادِ

    Crying over you, lamenting with yearning

    Beating hearts and livers

  21. يَتَجاوَبنَ بِالرَنينِ وَيَذرِف

    نَ دُموعاً تَفيضُ فَيضَ المَزادِ

    Responding with moaning and shedding

    Tears pouring like a flood

  22. أَيُّ يَومٍ نَسيتُ يَومَ التَلاقي

    أَيُّ يَومٍ نَسيتُ يَومَ التَنادِ

    What day did I forget the day of meeting

    What day did I forget the day of calling

  23. أَيُّ يَومٍ يَومُ الوُقوفِ إِلى اللَ

    هِ وَيَومُ الحِسابِ وَالإِشهادِ

    What day is the day of standing before God

    And the day of Reckoning and testimony

  24. أَيُّ يَومٍ يَومَ المَمَرِّ عَلى النا

    رِ وَأَهوالَها العِظَمِ الشِدادِ

    What day is the day of passing over Hell

    And its great, mighty horrors

  25. أَيُّ يَومٍ يَومُ الخَلاصِ مِنَ النا

    رِ وَهَولِ العَذابِ وَالأَصفادِ

    What day is the day of salvation from the Fire

    And horror of punishment and shackles

  26. كَم وَكَم في القُبورِ مِن أَهلِ مُلكٍ

    كَم وَكَم في القُبورِ مِن قُوّادِ

    How many in graves were people of kingship

    How many in graves were commanders

  27. كَم وَكَم في القُبورِ مِن أَهلِ دُنيا

    كَم وَكَم في القُبورِ مِن زُهّادِ

    How many in graves were people of world

    How many in graves were ascetics

  28. لَو بَذَلتُ النُصحَ الصَحيحَ لِنَفسي

    لَم تَذُق مُقلَتايَ طَعمَ الرُقادِ

    If I had given sincere advice to myself

    My worries would not have tasted sleep

  29. لَو بَذَلتُ النُصحَ الصَحيحَ لِنَفسي

    هِمتُ أُخرى الزَمانِ في كُلِّ وادِ

    If I had given sincere advice to myself

    I would have busied the times in every valley

  30. بُؤسَ لي بُؤسَ مَيِّتاً يَومَ أَبكى

    بَينَ أَهلي وَحاضِرِ العُوّادِ

    Wretched am I, wretched dead, the day I weep

    Among my family and attending condolers

  31. كَيفَ أَلهو وَكيفَ أَسلو وَأَنسى ال

    مَوتَ وَالمَوتُ رائِحٌ بي وَغادِ

    How can I be heedless and forget

    Death and death is coming to take me

  32. أَيُّها الواصِلي سَتَرفُضُ وَصلي

    عَنكَ لَو قَد أُذِقتَ طَعمَ اِفتِقادي

    O you who have arrived, your arrival would refuse me

    If you had tasted the flavor of my longing

  33. يا طَويلَ الرُقادِ لَو كُنتَ تَدري

    كُنتَ مَيتَ الرُفادِ حَيَّ السُهادِ

    O long sleeper, if only you knew

    You would be dead of rhinestones, living praise
