أَنساكَ مَحياكَ المَماتا

فَطَلَبتَ في الدُنيا الثَباتا

You forgot me, death erased you

You sought permanence in this life

أَوَثِقتَ بِالدُنيا وَأَنـ

ـتَ تَرى جَماعَتَها شَتاتا

You trusted in this world while

You saw its people scattered about

وَعَزَمتَ مِنكَ عَلى الحَيا

ةِ وَطولِها عَزماً بَتاتا

You were determined to live

A very long life

يا مَن رَأى أَبَوَيهِ في

ما قَد رَأى كانا فَماتا

O you who saw your parents

Saw them then they died

هَل فيهِما لَكَ عِبرَةٌ

أَم خِلتَ أَنَّ لَكَ انفِلاتا

Is there no lesson for you in them?

Or did you think you'd escape?

وَمَنِ الَّذي طَلَبَ التَفَلـ

ـلُتَ مِن مَنِيَّتِهِ فَفاتا

And who is it that evaded

His death and got away?

كُلٌّ تُصَبِّحُهُ المَنِيـ

ـيَةُ أَو تُبَيِّتُهُ بَياتا

Each is greeted at morning

Or taken at night by death
