1. أَما رَحِمَتني يَومَ وَلَّت فَأَسرَعَت

    وَقَد تَرَكَتني واقِفاً أَتَلَفَّتُ

    The day when she who had my mercy turned and hastened away,

    And left me standing there perplexed,

  2. أُقَلِّبُ طَرفي كَي أَراها فَلا أَرى

    وَأَحلُبُ عَيني دَرَّها وَأُصَوِّتُ

    I turn my eyes to and fro hoping to see her, but see her not,

    And I milk tears from my eyes for her, and call aloud.
