هتفت بدمع العين وهي سجوم

سلام يغادي جوكم ويراوحه
Greetings caress your air and their fragrance reaches you,
يا كريما لم يزل معروفه
O Noble One whose kindness has always
يا موردا لا يغيض النزح جمته
O spring whose purity no turbulence can disturb
قل لكنزي في النائبات وذخري
Tell my treasure in misfortunes and my wealth
إلى الملك الوهاب ما في يمينه
To the generous king, what is in his right hand,
أهبت بالدمع إذ بانوا فلباني
I shed tears when they left, so they overwhelmed me
يا نسيم الشمال أد رسالاتى
O breeze of the north, deliver thou my message
هي الدار تستسقيك مدمعك الجاري
The house calls upon you, seeking your flowing tears
ألا هل تجاوزت الخباء المحجبا
Has the beloved passed beyond the veiled tents
لي إن تحاماني أخ وحميم
If a brother and intimate friend support me,
عذيري من هذا العذول المفند
My excuse, for this fickle turning away
لما رأيت وشاة الحي ترصدنا
When I saw the neighborhood spies stalking us
لو تمرضون وحوشيتم لعدتكم
If you were to fall ill and act wild
يا من جرحت حشاشة المشتاق
Oh you who have wounded the ardor of the passionate one
إن شيراز بلدة لا يكاد الوصف
Shiraz is a town that defies
وأغرب ما مر في مسمعي
The strangest thing to reach my ears,
يا من نأى فجعلت بعد فراقه
O you who left, and after you went away
أوفاتخذ لك سندانا ومطرقة
Take for yourself a chisel and hammer,
يا منكرا هدم الحصون إذا اعتصت
O you who deny the destruction of fortresses when they are supported
كأنما اللوز إذ أودى الشتاء به
As if the almond tree when winter's cold laid hold on it
يا من ترحل عن أوطانهم بدني
O you who reluctantly left their homelands physically
وإن يدا أسديتها لحقيقة
A hand I lent to truth, while I draw breath
سلام وأولى ما يسير خادم
Greetings, the best start for a servant
إن عينا قوتها مرآك يا
A sight whose strength is seeing you, O
نبت بي أرضكم فرحلت عنها
Your land made me blossom, so I departed from it
آل قارون لا كبا بكم الدهر
The house of Qarun is no more
ألا تستخبر العلق النفيسا
Do you not ask about the precious calf,
لعبت بعطفيه الشمول فمادا
The sleeves of his cloak played with the breeze,
لقلدتنيها منة ليس تجحد
You granted it to me as a gift that cannot be denied
يا من يبل بما يقول أوامي
O you who is afflicted by what I say, my sorrows,
يا ساكني الخط في قلبي لكم خطط
O dwellers of my heart's lines, within me you have
لو أن لي بانبعاث الريح نحوكم
If I had, with the blowing wind’s departure your way,
إني لأعجب من هواي وجعلكم
I wonder at my passion and your making
سلام إذا استعبقت رياه أجليت
Peace be with you, when its fragrance surrounds you
ونواة لو أن كل نواة
If every seed were like it in mighty stature,
أكف البرايا من تراثهم صفر
The yellow hands have inherited their legacy,
ورد الكتاب فأورد الأفراحا
The book arrived bringing joy,
ألا قولوا لسيدنا رضي
Oh say to our lord, the content
يا غاديات السحب لا تتجاوزي
O passing clouds, do not go beyond
ألا تستنطق الدمن الخوالي
Will you not ask the abodes about our beloved companions
توشحت السماء ببرد غيم
The sky is clad in the chill of clouds,
أمولى الورى إني جعلتك في الذي
O my intimate friend, I have made you the judge
جذ الردى سبب الإسلام فانجذما
The joints of Islam were severed, so they collapsed,
يا قبر إنك لو علمت بمن ثوى
O grave, if you knew who lies in you
ماذا يفيدك من سؤال الأربع
What use is it to ask the four
جزى الله عني ابن الغنية ضعف ما
May God reward the son of al-Ghunna doubly for what
لم أتخذ منك غير متخذ
I have taken nothing from you but what is taken
يا من بهواه سيط لحمي ودمي
O you by whose love my flesh and blood were enslaved
ولما رأيت الكاشحين تتبعوا
When I saw those conceited ones pursue
خليلي من عليا لؤي بن غالب
My two dear friends from the eminent family of Lu’ayy bin Ghalib
هلا سألت الربع من سيهات
Alas! Did you ask the open desert plains
يا نزولا بين أجراع الحمى
O you who descended among the valleys of passion
هوى يقض حيازيم الحشا وهوى
My passion spoils my sleep all night,
ولم أر كالكلاب ذوات عدو
I have not seen dogs chasing with such fierce tenacity
ولما اكتسى اللوز الحسين مطارفا
When the handsome almond tree was clothed in blossoms,
يا سيد الشهداء جعفر وافد
O master of martyrs, Jafar, a supplicant has come
وراء كما إن المصاب جليل
Behind you, indeed the calamity is great,
بكيتك لو أن الدموع تديل
I wept for you, if only tears would flow
عاث الحمام فما أبقى وما تركا
The dove wreaked havoc, leaving nothing behind,
لعمرك ما واروه في الترب إنه
By your life, that which they have buried in the dust,
ما بال عينك لا تجود بمائها
Why do your eyes not shed their tears
ألا يا قوم ما للدهر عندي
Oh people, time holds nothing for me
تقول والدمع قد ظلت بوادره
You say, while tears have made their omens manifest,
يا محرق مهجتي بنار الصد
O you who burn my heart with rejection's fire
أخي نطق القمري بعد سكوت
My brother, the moon speaks after silence
يا خليلي من ذؤابة شيبان
O my companion, my hair has turned white
أتعجب من أتانك حين أنت
Do you wonder that she came to you when
وحالق أصبح في
A barber has become expert
سلام يفوق الراح لطفا ورقة
A greeting of peace, more gentle and tender than the breeze
لو أن كل لسان لي يعبر ما
If every tongue I had could make known
تمر الغواني في ثياب شفيفة
The beautiful women pass in diaphanous robes
يا أخا هاشم أهلا
O brother of Hashim, hello
يا من إذا وقف الوفود ببابه
O He who when the delegations stood at His door
أبا هاشم إني إلى ما يناله
O Abu Hashim, I am in need
حلت عليك معاقد الأنداء
The bonds of companionship were untied around you,
طاب الحواف وطاب ريح شواه
The coast is pleasant, and pleasant the breeze of Shawah
ألا قل لعبدالله عني مقالة
Say to Abdullah from me some words
مولاي لو قرع امرؤ باب امرئ
My Lord, if a man knocked at another's door
ألا قل لأحفى الناس بي وأبرهم
Tell my most faithful friend, most generous
أستوهب الأيام قربكم
I ask the days for your nearness,
يا طرس قل لخليلي اللذين هما
Oh Tires, tell my two dear friends, who are
يا من تملكني بما
O You who owns me with what
لما تفكرت في شيء أسيره
When I thought of something to eulogize
أأحبابنا إن أجمع البعد بعدكم
Our friends, though distance parts us far and wide
قل لمن يرجع الحوائج للخلق
Tell those who fulfill wishes for all creatures,
لا ألمت بجسمك الآلام
No pain has touched your body,
مررت بكربلاء فهاج وجدي
I passed Karbala and my inner being was stirred,
ما لي وما لصوادح الأوراق
What is with me and with the fluttering of leaves?
حمامات شيراز رفقا بنا
O doves of Shiraz, be gentle with us,
سواد فرع التي هام الفؤاد بها
The darkness of the branch I was infatuated with
وليلة بت تجلو لي حنادسها
A night whose stars reveal themselves to me
أمولى كل من يولي الهبات
You are the most generous to all who give gifts,
يا من نأت بهم الديار فأصبحوا
O you who have come to these lands and made them
يا فتح من أغلقت أبواب مطلبه
O opener of doors for those whose hopes were locked,
هناك ربك ما أولاك من نعم
There your Lord has bestowed on you so many blessings,
يا هل تصيخون لي يوما فأسمعكم
Oh will you ever listen to me one day, so I can let you hear
قل لمن فاقت البدور كمالا
Tell her whose cheeks have reached full perfection,
يا سادة أبعدت أيدي النوى بهم
O masters, the hands of fate have drawn them away from me,
رعت قريش فينا الذمام على
Quraysh nurtured rancor against us, despite
سادتي إن نأت الدار بكم
My masters, if the house departs with you
ما كنت أحسب والأيام مولعة
I did not expect, while the days were alluring
قل لأعلى الورى محلا ورتبه
Say to the highest in rank and position
يا أكرم الناس أعماما وأخوالا
O most generous of people in uncles and brothers,
وشادن ثمل الأعضا كأن به
With a twiggy body as though
نصحت لله فلا تتهم
You advised in God's name so do not accuse
يا نازلين على نأي المحل بهم
O you who have settled in the remote abode
يا ذا الذي ألف الثواء وذكره
O you who is accustomed to praise and whose mention
أما لفراقنا هذا اجتماع
Is there no reunion after this parting of ours,
إن الثناء وإن تعاظم قدره
Though praise be great, yet in the great man's eye
عاطنيها قبل ابتسام الصباح
حتام أمطل سيدي شكر اليد
بعثت طيفها فزار طروقا
إن نقلت من شوامخ الشرف
صاح ما وجدي بسكان المحل
مولاي دارك بالعفاة فسيحة
يا راحلا للقبور هل لك أن
قبل أمس كسا الورد الثرى درع عقيق
خليلي حال البعد دون لقاكما
أبا هاشم أنهي إليك تحية
إنا إذا جار الزمان وسامنا
لإبراهيم خالصتي وودي
ألجفن أرقتموه هجود
معاهدهم بالأبرقين هوامد
كف الحمام وترت أي جواد
أنا أرفع الأبواب إلا أنني
أهدي إليكم على بعد الديار لكم
عزيز أمرنا لك بالتعزي
أهدى لنا طيفه بعد الهدو عشا
يا خليلي احبسا الركب إذا ما
كأنما قده قضيب
وليل أشبنا طرتيه بأوجه
يا من نأت بهم الديار فأصبحوا
لا بورك في العذول ما لي وما له
لما رأيت سلوي غير متجه
وشادن مرضت أجفانه فغدا
نسلم من بعد الديار عليكم
وطرق سلكناها فمازال ضيقها
وصادحتي ورق شجاني غناهما
وقارئ يوقر الأسماع منطقه
باءت حنيفة بالخسران إذ عكفت
خذه إليك كصفحة المرآة
حسنت غيه له وفساده
برغم العوالي والمهندة البتر
جزى الله عنا زاهرا في صنيعه
يا ليت أرواحنا الثلاث تجمعن
يا وردتي خديه ما لكما
لا يوم كيومنا بأم الحصم
يا ليلة أنسنا بأعلى القصر
سلامي على مولى تملك بره
ألا أيها المولى الذي حسن خطه
لسيد لو دعتني بعض أنعمه
ورد الكتاب من الجناب السامي
إن تبعد الأيام ذاتي عنكم
يا طرس قل لأخي السماحة والندى
أبا هاشم إن الذي كنت واصفا
سقى الوسمي وجه أبي علي
قل لأحفى الأنام بي يا كتابي
يا سيدا عظمت مواقع
من عذيري من سوء حظ رماني
