1. O most generous of people in uncles and brothers,
And finest of people in words and deeds,

And your good treatment means much to me, you say "No, no."

3. My soul is yours to redeem, O Lord whose gifts
Come to people without asking, in streams.

4. You have divided your generosity among those who seek it,
A crown for the head, anklets for the feet.

5. If another gives but a mite, he glories in it,
While you think little of giving by the pound.

6. When ill-luck casts shadows on people, you shine on them
A face towards which people throng.

7. If wealth adorns a man other than you, in truth
You have adorned him, for the real man adorns wealth.
