1. O opener of doors for those whose hopes were locked,
While the insolvent were in dire straits,
١. يا فَتْحَ مَنْ أُغْلِقَتْ أبْوَابُ مَطْلَبِهِ
في وَجْهِهِ وغِنَى القَومِ المفَاليسِ
2. If you listed the blessings you have bestowed on me,
The books would overflow the stationers' shelves.
٢. لَوْ سُمْتَنَي حَصْرَ ما أُولِيتَ مِنْ نِعَمٍ
كُتْباً لَضَاقَ بِهَا بَاعُ القَرَاطِيسِ
3. Yesterday you raised me to lofty ranks,
A height for which Idris' feet yearn,
٣. بَيْنَاكَ بالأمْسِ تُعْلِيني ذُرَا رُتَبٍ
شُمٍّ تَهُشُّ لَهَا أَقْدَامُ إدْرِيسِ
4. Today you have granted me such noble gifts,
That I trail my robe through verdant gardens.
٤. أوْلَيتنِي اليَومَ آلاَءً خَرَجْتُ بِهَا
أَجُرُّ ذَيلي في خُضْرِ المَلاَبيسِ
5. If the wisest man who knew me saw me now,
He would decree I'm just another peacock.
٥. فَلَوْ رآنِيَ أدْرَى النَّاسِ بِي لقَضَى
عَلَيَّ إنِّي مِنْ بَعضِ الطَّواويسِ
