1. Say to the highest in rank and position
And the most eminent of men in worth and alertness

5. May God have mercy on his parents and grant him
An enduring life of glory and loftiness

And the dearest of all to me are my loved ones

7. In my house I have what I want, praise God
But nothing like a morsel of sugar

8. Affection has called me to seek your friendship
Which you know well, and companionship

9. So if what I seek comes about, then thanks
But if not, then anger

10. And may God smite whoever is your enemy, O guide
Whether with a snake or with war

11. If after that he repents, fine, but if not
Then strike him with a stab or a blow

12. And whoever is angered by my prayer, and does not
