1. I wept for you, if only tears would flow
From sorrow, or if they would ease the pain

2. And I lamented you with leaves that mourn, so I have
A murmuring beneath the darkness when they rustle

3. And I blamed my time for you ignorantly, and whoever
Blames this time tomorrow, he is ignorant

4. For this time has never been, one day, free from what
Became of it, imprinted on it, ever changing

5. To God from a time whose circumstances
For people, seem to eternally shift

6. It refused to show us the face of a day, in which
No sorrow of the past follows with wailing and regret

8. And one made arrogant by a horde of soldiers and destruction
Quenching the lives of men insatiably

9. He became so mighty, he nearly exceeded the decree of fate
In might and glory upon people

10. But destiny cast him down where he did not expect

11. So from the great throng he met scarcity
And after might awoke degraded

Under the soil forever set

13. And branches of statures that waved lush

When it was lonelier than her abode and rest

15. She brought the dwellers of tombs happiness
While after her the living grieved

16. Returning from her Hajj she did not stop
Except at the abode of those in tombs

17. As if she never returned from being veiled
Nor after departure did she turn back

18. The swiftest she hastened, most faithful she was
As if she was not allowed rest, and had no guarantor

19. The announcement of death marred the beautiful face
Of tidings, and the hand of sorrow grew ugly

20. Joy soured as it gladdened, so avert with gladness
Sorrow that follows, painfully atrocious

21. By the life of the happy one, he will ultimately
Regret and to grief turn back

22. She saw her parents, long had passed since them
So she visited them, for the lover fulfils

23. O daughter of the one if after Muhammad

24. And wife of the one if the creation searched
They would find no peer for him in the worlds

25. And sister of those who exerted themselves in ascendance
Enriching them in ease and hosting nobles

26. And mother of the one who at five ran
A race meant for those in their fifties

27. And one of the women who due to their gaining
Masculine virtues of husbands became husbands

28. Chaste women who were never blamed for shame
Nor were garments trailing pulled over them

29. They combined intellect and sublime lineage
Worn as a shirt only by Ali the Sublime and Intimate

30. And they inherited guidance from the Maid
So whichever you wish of them is a maiden

31. She who is unmatched in chastity and prestige
For long eras a peerless paramour

32. You would make strongholds of modesty collapse
So let those plunder who plunder

33. If after returning your stay is brief, the sorrow
For you, even if time is long, remains

34. For the Lord of worshippers sent you His peace
And the full moons of night visited you

35. O most patient of people we saw
Bearing the heavy load and its weight

36. Condolences will not please you, but words
The friend advises to the friend eternally

37. For your sorrow today wipes out consoling
Leaving a quarter of patience, impossible

38. While below you the garden blossomed
As spring winds blew upon it gently

39. I am truly the date palm you do not see
Swaying as blessings sway

40. Your smooth tongues, if you throw
Words, the speaker knows not what he says

41. And your biting swords, if you strike
With them, no blades will greet their striking ever

42. If among you is one whose assumptions
Whisper of something against me without proof

43. Other than praise which circulated of me
Whose phrases roam the two horizons

44. Then persist as you wish, and as your Guardian wishes
May he visit you with my praise morning and evening
