1. Tell those who fulfill wishes for all creatures,
And hope for supererogatory kind acts -

2. I have a need from the Creator of creatures
And the Patron of the noble and eminent -

3. My need is that He - Glory be to Him - extend for me
In the survival of the noble Abdurra'oof -

4. For the survival of the noble is better for the likes of me
Than a hundred I might attain and thousands -

5. With him is the choicest of dew, and with him
Is the tree of favors, near to plucking -

6. So if I spoke of him as I spoke in the evening, then these are days
Of fickleness -

7. And if my satire displeased him, then this
Full moon is pelted in its darkness with eclipse -

8. Then it meets light again as it was
And its robe of eclipse is stripped from it -

9. And the edges of swords are blunted that they might go
Wherever the edges of swords are directed -

10. And crooked spears are not straightened for stabbing
Except by calibration and training -

11. And so too pens, the writer hones them
Until they excel in placing letters -

12. Thus are the generous roused from their sleep of kind acts
By the prick of words -

13. O brother of Hashim son of Abd Manaf -
You are the warmth of winter, the coolness of summer -

14. Do not leave me to my own praise, for with you
There is no lack in praising the fulfiller -

15. O you who ransom us with souls and wealth
From a lineage abounding and delightful -

16. Free us from dispositions that preceded you
And called us to blame and rebuke -

17. And accept our love and take from our intimacy
