يا بديع الحسن والإح
Oh beauty of beauty and kindness
وإذا توعرت المسالك لم ارد
When the roads grew rugged, I would not walk them
ولم أدر من ألق عليه رداءه
I did not know who cast their cloak over him
امنن على عبد رجاك ساعة
Have mercy on a servant who hopes in You an hour,
أتاك الليل معتكرا
The night comes to you, gloomy,
كأنما ياسميننا الغض
Our jasmine's tender green, it seems
قامت لتحجب قرص الشمس قامتها
Her figure rose to veil the sun's disc from my sight
حاط نزري إذ خاف تأكيد ضري
When he feared my harm would be confirmed
أهلك عدوك واسلم
Destroy your enemy and make peace
قلت متى ترحمني
I said when will you have mercy on me
قالت لقد هنا هنا

شعر من محض وده

كأن عشي القطر في شاطىء النهر
The evening rain at the river bank
بنيتي كوني به برة

أتتك أم الحسن
The mother of beauty came to you
وليل أدمنا فيه شرب مدامة
A night we lingered, drinking wine
قبر الغريب سقاك الرائح الغادي
The breeze coming over watered your grave, O stranger!
بكيت إلى سرب القطا إذ مررن بي
I wept to a flock of wild cats as they passed by me,
وطرد الناس بين يدي ممري
People hastening before my passage
كأنها فوق العصا
As though it were the plume
أيا ملكا يجل عن الضريب
O mighty King, be lenient with taxing
بكى المبارك في إثر ابن عباد
The blessed one wept in the wake of Ibn Abbad
يا بدر تم تجلى
Oh full moon that appeared
أهلا بكم صحبتكم نحوي الديم
Welcome my friends, your company takes me to euphoria
حسد القصر فيكم الزهراء
The palace envied among you Al-Zahra
تغير لي فيمن تغير حارث
The friend in whom my hope was placed is changed,
يا سيدي الأعلى ومن
O my supreme Lord, and He
أبا الوليد تجاوز
Abal Walid forgive
يا سيدي يا معدن العلم
O my master, O source of knowledge,
صدق لنا فال السمه
Believe us so the marks
أيا ملكا عمني فضله
O King whose generosity has enriched me
جاءتك ليلا في ثياب نهار
She came to you at night in daytime garb
خليلي قولا هل علي ملامة
My friend, is there blame on me
أيها الصاحب الذي فارقت عي
O my companion whom my eyes and soul have parted from
إذا ما اقتحمت الوغى دارعا
When you charge into the fray fully armored
وقلت خذي جوهرا ثابتا
And I said take an enduring jewel
يا أيتها الشمس التي
O sun that my heart
الملك في طي الدفاتر
The king in folding the books
كلام كمثل الدر تنثره نثرا
Words like scattered pearls I say
تنام ومدنفها يسهر
You sleep while he stays awake
يوم يقول الرسول قد أذنت
The day the Messenger said, "I permit you,
بركت تلوح وفي الفؤاد بلابل
Blessings beckon, while in my heart confusion stirs,
ريعت من البرق وفي كفها

ولما التقينا للوداع غدية
When we met to bid farewell one morn
أبصرت طرفك عند مشتجر القنا
I saw your glance by the camphor tree
بكت أن رأت إلفين ضمهما وكر
She wept when she saw two thousand of them gathered
من يصحب الدهر لم يعدم تقلبه
Whoever accompanies time will not lack its vicissitudes
كلامك حر والكلام غلام
Your words are free and words are slaves
أبى الدهر أن يقنى الحياء ويندما
Time refused to make me feel ashamed and regretful
كذبت مناكم صرحوا أو جمجموا
Your promises have lied, state openly or keep silent
هم أوقدوا بين جنبيك نارا
They lit a fire between your ribs,
قضى وطرا من أهله كل نازح
Each emigrant bid farewell to his family
أنباء أسرك قد طبقن آفاقا
News of your family has spread horizons
يا ملكا قد أصبحت كفه
Oh king whose palm
غلامية جاءت وقد جعل الدجى
A maiden came, and dusk had made
غربان أغمات لا تعدمن طيبة
Crows have brought dark tidings, may you not lack a bright night
يا قاتل الصب ولا واق
O killer of youth, have mercy
غلب الكرى ودنت مطايا الراح
The caravan has departed, the camels' resting place draws near,
لقلبي لبعدك عني عليل
My heart is sick for your absence from me
يا من تعرض لي يريد مساءتي
O you who try to harm me,
أنت إن تغز ظافر
If you march out victorious
أبا قاسم قد كنت دنيا صحبتها
O Abul Qasim, you have accompanied the life of this world for a little while,
ولربما سلت لنا من مائها
Sometimes she unsheathes for us from her water
وشادن أسأله قهوة
I asked him for coffee,
قد زارنا النرجس الذكي
The clever narcissus has visited us
أرمدت أم بنجومك الرمد

بعثت بالمرسل انبساطا
I sent a message of goodwill
درا بعثت مفصلا بجمان
Pearls you sent, strung in necklaces,
إذا كان أردى الزمان بمثله
When time's adversity was at its worst
حكمه في مهجتي حسنه
His beauty has taken rule of my heart
حسدت كتابي على فوزه
My books I envied for their joyous fate -
يا خبر من يلحظه ناظري
O you whose penetrating eyes observe me,
يا قمرا أفقه فؤادي
O moon that enriches my heart
العين بعدك تقذي
After you, my eyes drip
خلعت ثوب الصفي
You cast off the garment of faithfulness
حرم النوم علينا ورقد
Sleep is forbidden to us, yet he rests
شعرت فجئت بعين المحال
You felt poetry so you brought the impossible
قد وجدنا الحبيب يصفى وداده
We found the beloved purifying his affection,
يا درة قلبي بها مفتون
O pearl of my heart, for which I'm infatuated
أنا في الحب مغرم مستنيل

لو كان قلبي عن الأشغال منتزحا

ألام وما لومي على الحب واجب

Oh Responder to prayer, your call reached one who answers,
بعثنا بالغزال إلى الغزال
We sent the gazelle to the gazelle
لكفي أهدى في نداها من العطا
My hands have led me, with their gift of bounty
أمطلع زهر نجوم الكلام
The blossoming flower of the stars of speech
لا بد من فرج قريب
Relief will surely come soon
صنع الريح من الماء زرد
The wind has made emerald from water
أكثرت هجري غير أنك ربما
You distanced yourself from me more often, yet
سلت علي يد الخطوب سيوفها
The hands of misfortunes brandished their swords against me,
أقوم على الأيام خير مقام
I stand firm in days of turmoil
أترى اللقاء كما نحب يوفق
Will our meeting be as we wish, and bring delight
زهر الأسنة في الهيجا غدت زهري
The flowers of speech in passion became my flowers
قل لمن جمع العلم
Say to the one who gathered knowledge,
هذي جبال درن
These are the mountains of Darren
شعراء طنجة كلهم والمغرب
The poets of Tangier, all of Morocco
أرى الدنيا الدنية لا تواتي
I see this lowly world does not endure
وساعة للزمان مسعفة
At times when fate lends a helping hour
أوجه البدر يشرق في الظلام
The full moon rises shining in the dark
وعدت وأخلفتني الموعدا
You promised and failed me the promise
الأكثرين مسودا ومملكا
Those in authority enthroned throughout the ages,
أسر الهوى نفسي فعذبها

Drink at dawn's face
يا كريم المحل في كل معنى
O noble one in every meaning
تؤمل للنفس الشجية فرحة
You give hope of joy to the anguished soul
لما تماسكت الدموع
When my tears were held back
تقدم إلى ما اعتدت عندي من الرحب
Come to what I am used to with me of vastness
يا غيم عيني أقوى منك تهتانا
O cloud, my eyes are stronger than you in shedding tears
ذكراك في في قد شيبت بتسبيحي
Remembering you has turned my temples gray with my praises.
لما نأيت نأى الكرى عن ناظري
When you went away, my eyes lost sight of all
هذي السعادة قد قامت على قدم
This happiness arose upon my feet
من كان يسلو عن نوال
Whoever asks after Nawal
لولا عيون من الواشين ترمقني
Were it not for spies' eyes that watch me
ألا يا غرة السعد
O you, the joy of fortune,
اشرب الكأس في وداد ودادك
Drink the cup in the love of your beloved
مجن حكى صانعوه السماء
A sword whose makers tempered steel with the sky,
لك الله كم أودعت قلبي من أسى
Oh heart, how much sorrow she left in you
يجور على قلبي هوى ويجير

لاح وفاحت روائح الند
The breeze carries fragrant scents
غصن من التبر فوقه ورق
A branch of musk over it, leaves,
ينادون قلبي والغرام يجيب
They call upon my heart, and love responds
الجود أحلى على قلبي من الظفر
Generosity is sweeter to my heart than triumph,
ولقد شربت الراح يسطع نورها
I drank the wine whose light radiates,
أيا نفس لا تجزعي واصبري
O soul, do not despair and be patient
أبا هاشم هضمتني الشفار
O Abu Hashim, sharp tongues have hurt me,
وأغن يلعب بالهموم كما غدت
And he sang, playing with worries as
أيا ماجدا لم يرم شامخا
O Magid, never aspiring for glory,
أزف الصيام وزار نور النرجس
Ramadan has come, the narcissus light visits
ألا يا مليكا يرتجى ويهاب

لله در الحب ماذا يصنع
To God belongs love's reign, what can it do?
يا متبع الاكرام إنعاما
O you who pursue generosity with gifts
وشمعة تنفي ظلام الدجى
A candle dispels the darkness of night
دارى ثلاثته بلطف ثلاثة
My dwelling has three qualities of grace
أرية أنت فائدة الزمان
Orietta, you are the gem of time
يا صفوتي من البشر

وردت أبا الفتح سيدي

فيما مضى كنت بالأعياد مسرورا

أمعتضدا بالله دعوة آمل

يا غرة تسخر بالبدر
يطول علي الدهر إن لم ألاقها
عفا الله عن سحر على كل حالة
إني على إلفتي للسهد والكمد
يا ليت حربا ذاق الأعادي
الشمس تخجل من جمالك
يا أيها الملك الذي لم يزل
يا هلالا إذا بدا لي تجلت
يا قمرا قلبي له مطلع
تم له الحسن بالعذار
فتكت مقلتاه بالقلب مني
أنا في عذاب من فراقك
من للشجاعة والكرم
أما لانسكاب الدمع في الخد راحة
تبدلت من عز ظل البنود
خرجوا ليستسقوا فقلت لهم
من عزا المجد إلينا قد صدق
ترفقا يا أبا يحيى ومن ظفرت
مررت بكرمة جذبت ردائي
حمت بخفاقة الجناح وقد
يا ليت مدة بعدك
ثلاثة منعتها عن زيارتنا
جوهرة عذبني
لله ساق مهفهف غنج
يصبرني أهل المودة دائبا
عرفت عرف الصبا إذ هب عاطره
وليل ظللنا فيه نعمل كأسنا
شربنا وجفن الليل يغسل كحله
أنام وما قلبي عن المجد نائم
لعمرك إني بالمدامة قوال
لقد حصلت يا رنده
رعى الله من يصلى فؤادي بحبه
غنتك أغماتية الألحان
لك الحمد من بعد السيوف كبول
كذا يهلك السيف في جفنه
إليك النزر من كف الأسير
حجبت فلا والله ماذاك عن أمري
غريب بأرض المغربين أسير
يقولون صبرا لا سبيل إلى الصبر
ألا يا مليكا ظل في الخطب مفزعا
لدي لك العتبى تزاح عن العتب
من للملوك بشأو الأصيد البطل
أيها المنحط عني مجلسا
نوال جزيل ينهر الشكر والحمدا
يا أيها الملك الذي
علل فؤادك قد أبل عليل
يقاتل باللحظ محبوبنا
أخلفتني وعدك لي
سأسأل ربي أن يديم بي الشكوى
ألا حي أوطاني بشلب أبا بكر
سلي تعلمي إن كنت عالمة
كتبت وعندي من فراقك ما عندي
أغائبة الشخص عن ناظري
