1. May Allah watch over my present and past state
Even if I have stripped my past resolve

2. Yet why do the nights not cease to persecute me
And strike me with piercing arrows, to my ruin

3. And they know that misfortunes subdue me
Yet I have not ceased to be bare of worldly garb

4. I don new clothes in the world
From which generosity renews what was worn

5. Yet neither miserliness has ever passed my mind
Nor people's miserliness ever crossed my mind

6. Oh, how excellent in glory is my unity with a gentle companion
And my sacrificing, in praise, my soul and wealth
