1. They have erred from purpose, though I have not erred from purpose,
When the ways of subtlety are obscured from the lion.

2. When they put forward avarice, I turn away from them,
Though some people confer bounty, I conceal what I bestow.

3. To God belongs what I conceal of justice and munificence,
To God belongs what I reveal of merit and glory.

4. I do not meet my guest without an open countenance,
Else I belie God's bounty that is with me.
