1. When the roads grew rugged, I would not walk them
Except with the light of a shining full moon.
١. وَإِذا تَوَعَّرَتِ المَسالِكُ لَم ارِد
فيها السُرى إِلّا برأي مُقمِرِ
2. When seeking great things, my keys to them
Are resolve, and a blade sharp as a fang.
٢. وَإِذا طَلَبتُ عَظيمةً فمفاتِحي
فيها العَزيمَةُ وَالسِنانُ السمهَري
