عسى من خفي اللطف سبحانه لطف

May relief come from the hidden kindness of the Glorious, with grace

ضربوا الخيام على الكثيب الاخضر

They pitched tents on the green hill

دم المحب على الاطلال مطلول

The blood of the lover is shed over the ruins

ضحك تبروق الابرقين تبسما

The lightnings of the clouds smiled with delight,

أنسمة طيب أم صبا طيبة هبا

A gentle fragrant breeze blew by,

اليه به سبحانه أتوسل

To Him, glorified is He, I plead

لكل خطب مهم حسبي الله

For every important matter, God suffices me

متى يستقيم الظل والعود أعوج

When will the crooked wood and shadow be made straight?

حياك يا ربع ليلى كل هطال

Greetings, O companion of Layla, every downpour

قف بذات الاراك واندب طلولا

Stand in the same place and mourn for a long time

وجد تحرك في قلبي فما سكنا

A movement stirred in my heart, so it would not settle

سجعت بأيمنذي الاراك حمائمه

My dove cooed in the trees of al-Arak,

لك الحمد حمدا نستلذ به ذكرا

For You is praise, a praise we delight in remembering,

جوامع الخير في الدارين تابعة

The keys to goodness in both abodes are obedience

أمن تذكر أهل البان والبان

Do you remember the people of valleys and hills?

بمحمد خطر المحامد يعظم

With Muhammad dangers of praise become great

قل للمطي اللواتي طال مسراها

Tell the one whose journey was prolonged after kissing its right and left

بالابرق الفرد اطلال قديمات

With the singular lightning, the ruins of antiquity

بكى الغريب لفقد الدار والجار

The stranger wept for the loss of home and neighbor

أعلمت من ركب البراق عتيما

I knew who rode Al-Burāq as an orphan

هي العيس نوليها الحنين فتسعد

She yearns for love, so we excite her longing,

سقاك خيام الغور صوب الحيا عهدا

The vales of al-Ghur quenched you towards life anew

راح الزمان ولا علم عن العلم

Time has passed and I have no knowledge of knowledge,

ذروني أبكي بعد جيرة ثهمد

Let me cry after an extinguished neighbor

حروف معان أو عقود جواهر

Letters with meanings, or gems in knots

لي في نوالك يا مولاي آمال

My hope is in Your favor, O my Master

تنبهوا يا رقود

Wake up, O sleepers

إلى صارم الدين الفتى ابن محمد

To the valiant Sârim Ad-Dîn, son of Muhammad,

ضربت سعاد خيامها بفؤادي

My heart struck Saada's tent

خل الغرام لصب دمعه دمه

The lover let his tearful blood weep,

يا جيرة الحي في ذا الاثل والبان

O neighbor of the quarter in these ruins and tents

فؤادي بربع الظاعنين أسير

My heart is captive to the ruins of the departed

بارق بالابرق الفرد سرى

With lightning flashing brightly alone

ألسيع صل ماله من راقى

Is he worn out, with no comforter?

إذا عهدوا فليس لهم وفاء

If they make a promise, they have no loyalty

دمى طلل بين الطلول بحا جر

Tears of longing flowed between the hills, so wonder not at my weeping,

أتحب مسئلة بغير جواب

Do you love a question with no answer?

أفي نيابتي برع تقيم

Do you act as my deputy, building strongly

ما ضر وجد الهوى العذرى لوهانا

What harm if pure love weakens me,

خيال سعد أسعف بالمزار

The dream of Saad brought good tidings at the shrine

أعد الوداع فما أراك تراني

I bid farewell, for I see not that you will see me,

كلام بلا نحو طعام بلا ملح

Speech without grammar is food without salt

أفق هديت من التبريح والكمد

I have found serenity through detachment and patience,

عاهدوا الربع ولوعا وغراما

My companions pledged ardently their love to the homeland

مثل لعينك خدرا في الحمى ضربا

Your eyes are like intoxicating wine in feverish desire

هم الأحبة إن جاروا وإن عدلوا

They are the loved ones, whether they are unkind or fair,

تجلت لوحدانية الحق أنوار

The lights of the oneness of the Truth appeared

أغيب وذو اللطائف لا يغيب

I disappear, yet the Kind One never disappears

لاقيت يا نفس حقا ما حكى الحاكي

I have found, O my soul, truly what the storyteller related is true

ولا في بقاع الارض حيا وميتا

Neither among the realms of earth, alive or dead,

رفاقي الظاعنين متى الورود

My friends who complain, when will the flowers return

أتأمرني بالصبر والطبع أغلب

You order me to be patient while my nature is impatient,

خطرت كغصن البانة المتأود

I swayed like a willow branch blown by the wind

تطاول ليلي بعد ليلى بثهمد

My night prolonged after Layla out of grief,

رد بالمطي موارد الغزلان

Return the gazelles to their pastures

أهاب سحيرا بالفراق مهيب

He parted from me awe-inspiringly

محدثي عن فريق فارقوا العلما

My friends who left knowledge behind

رياض نجد بكم جنان

The gardens of Najd, with their silver lights

صل الرغائب عشرا واثنتين وكن

Pray twelve and twenty-two cycles of prayer

صدوا عن الصب الكئيب واعرضوا

Turn away from melancholic youth and turn aside,

أنبي دونك عبرتي وتنهدي

I lament to you my sighs and sorrows

قف بالخضوع ونادربك يا هو

Stand in awe and call upon Him, O you

أيرجع لي قرب الحبيب المعاهد

Will my beloved's proximity return to me,

وجاه وجهك يحميني ويمنعني

Your face protects me and prevents me

كل شيء منكم عليكم دليل

Everything of you is evidence upon you

لك الحمد يا مستوجب الحمد دائما

You deserve all praise, O You who are eternally worthy of praise,

قال مستودع الغيوب النهاري

The keeper of the divine secrets said in the presence of the Benevolent Creator

أرى برق الغوير اذا تراءى

أراني ما ذكرت لك الفراقا

يا صاحب القبر المقيم بيثرب

ودعتها والدمع يقطر بيننا

سقاك الحيا الوسمى ربعا تأيدا

قفا برياض الشعب شعب القرنفل

سمعت سويجع الاثلاث غنى

لم يبق في الحي من ربع ولا طلل

قسمت قلبك في الهوى فتقسما

سامرت ليلك بالغوير فطالا

هب النسيم فما ست منه أشجار

ألف التذكر مبدئا ومعيدا

لا عين العين فعل البيض والاسل

مضى زمن الصبا فدع التصابي

كم ذا أراها نحو طيبة ترتمي

مقيل العاثرين أقل عثارى

مالي مع الله في الدارين من سبب

من لنفس ثناها

يا رب صل على النبي المجتبى

طيف الخيال من النيابتين سرى

أرياح نجد تممي الهابا

قف بذات السفح من اضم

تعلقت بالاسباب دون مدبري

سلام حواشيه كدر منضد

هل عرس الظاعن المشيم

يا راحلين إلى منى بقيادي
