1. He parted from me awe-inspiringly
With fiery passion blazing in the vale

2. My premonition of departure proved true
As tears poured from his cheeks

3. No fleeting glance deceived me
With which the cheek of the beloved gave a sign

4. He bids farewell with a turn of his eyelid
While guards surround him on all sides

5. The edges of his teeth nearly melted from grief
At having to bid adieu, they are as solid as rock

6. After loved ones depart, how can life be sweet?
Their camels are lost between the mountain paths

7. Is there any consolation after parting for yearners
Whose hearts are torn by grief before the separation?

8. Among the white tents to the right of the sanctuary
Are hearts that summoned them to depart

9. If, after we parted, the rain clouds do not weep
Then what remains for me after this to melt away?

10. The breath of the breeze awakens my agony
It flares up whenever the wind blows

11. I linger in their shade and pastures
Pining as if I were a camel calf tied down

12. How often the slopes of the mountain called me
In my youth, to its cool pleasures

13. The misguidance of passion fed me the hope
Of suns rising that resemble no setting

14. No smooth rock goaded me after the rough one
Nor did any rugged mountain after the smooth

15. Alas! Not all dwellings are lofty
Nor every fair faced maiden an Arab

16. How many are named but not like their names
Even if they answer when called by them

17. So enough of remote places, tell us
News of the people of encampments, that would be sweet

18. I heard you talk about the tents of Alij
Perhaps you have recently been to the tents

19. Describe the lush vegetation and pastures of Hajar
Are the greenery and pastures still lush?

20. What of the red sands, did the north wind
Blow over them or the southern breeze?

21. Did the gazelles continue frolicking after I left?
Where am I, and where are the gazelles?

22. What of the languid eyed maidens, for whom
My passion has not relented nor I repented?

23. Let Shahab al-Din Ahmad know that I
Respond to every summons

24. He is pure, son of the pure, and my pillar
Of faith, polished, honorable, awe-inspiring

25. Noble, best of the noble and a leader
Among the righteous, highborn, and refined

26. His hands overflow with generosity to visitors
He is an ocean of munificence and heart of kindness

27. His character is most agreeable
Radiant, welcoming, and generous

28. After we parted, he sent me words
To make the child turn gray

29. You reproached me for many matters
I know not which sin to repent

30. Your rebuke pains me, for I have
None but you when the healer cannot heal

31. When two visitors cheered me, your absence saddened me
Can we not have presence after absence?

32. You blame me from afar though the road
Is short, I'm told, not far

33. I have stumbled once in Daban
And fallen again - such is life

34. Until misfortunes in its regions
Melted its branches, though they were lush

35. Then I swore never to tread again
Where wolf or hyena crossed my path

36. I left Daban and shall never
Return, despite what I left in anger

37. How can I stop at Bayt Nawaira
After the awful day I had there?

38. I recalled the words of Al-Ghashmiri against them
And what he did, for the stranger is a stranger

43. Take me by the hand, O Aal Shams Ammar
Though my sins wither and dry up

44. Be my protection from the tyranny of an oppressive fate
By it the free and truthful are called liars

45. You are master and son of a master
Righteous, like clouds over a peak

46. Your father - may God sanctify his soul - was my beloved
And you are his son and the son of a beloved, a darling

47. You were gentle when fate was harsh
And you fertile land when times were barren

48. Your rank with me has scales full
That the crying doves and starlings do not weigh

49. I will seek your pardon until I gain
A share of your beautiful forgiveness

50. If you who pardon all sinners
Do not pardon me, how strange!

51. So take these rare pearls
In unique compositions pleasing to hear

52. No poet has preceded me in composing them
Nor has any literary man uttered them

53. Upon you eternal, blessed peace
Whose fragrance is musk and perfume
