1. My heart is captive to the ruins of the departed
It halts at their traces while captive

2. And my copious tears pour in their dwelling-places
So how can I restrain my tears while they pour copiously?

3. And the fresh north wind passes by them, and my youth
They have spirits in Lihash and Bukoor

4. I yearn when the doves of their districts sing
And my heart inclines towards them and flies

5. And I recall the stalwarts of Najd, their striking might
So my passions cry out to them and change

6. If only my poetry would depict the cheeky flirts
And the three meadows that harm

7. And the freshwater maidens playing at dawn
Goblets of the breeze circling about them

8. And if only I could quench my thirst from the people's valley
And look upon that land while it rains

9. And listen in the skirts of the BUSHAM at eve
To the cooing of doves with their murmuring

10. So O neighbour of the Yemeni people, by your right
Pray or command gentle visions to visit

11. After perfection and absence from the heart is not absence
And you went away while present in the chest

12. I am jealous that my senses should see you
And I conceal you while the lover is jealous

13. Beloveds of my heart, is there any healer for my affliction
Other than you, skilled in the malady of lovers?

14. You planted in my heart distress, its fruits being
Sorrows with the timber of Lihash for kindling

15. Armies of passion! How each glance of the onlooker
Assails the fortress of my heart with love's siege

16. Give my eyes a glance of your beauty
Not all whose tryst boils over can blame

17. A sentry stood over my heart, hearing and sight
So nothing is hidden from Him, the Knower of secrets

18. My wish is your love, and disgrace is honour
Sweet is your love, and the bitter is made easy

19. You count my religion and worldly life as against me
So grief is transformed into joy

20. And rapture seizes my heart when you are recalled
As the drinker relaxes when his wine takes effect

21. And I can do without the universe apart from you
While devoid of you my masters I am needy

22. I abstain utterly from strangers and your recollection
Is my predawn meal in love and breakfast

23. And my Night of Value is a night spent
Communing with you, and the pens slide smoothly

24. And my feast day is the morn I draw near you
Through the grace of the Hidden One, veiled

25. So give freely and reconcile, for time causes separation
And most of the lover's life is short

26. And do not close the doors to me for my stumbling
For you are generous and the Noble forgives

27. And sins have weighed down my back, but my hope
Is in the Great Forgiver of sins

28. And the assistance of Allah's Messenger Ahmad is my ally
If I have no other helper in afflictions

29. And praising Allah's Messenger is the apex of my fortune
Through it I succeed the day the sky pours forth

30. A purified, well-mannered prophet bringing glad tidings
And a warner to all the worlds

31. When he is recalled, hearts relax through recalling him
And souls delight and breasts expand

32. We deemed the like of him non-existent in our world
Indeed creation of his peer has been scarce

33. And how can the best to tread upon earth compare?
And in every dimension he surpasses the loftiest

34. And every noble is humble before him
And every great one regards the two towns (Mecca and Medina) as trivial

35. Were the pebbles to praise him in his right hand
Water for the armies would have gushed forth copiously from Mimhir

36. And a palm trunk, wolf and doe spoke to him
As did the hidden venom of an adder and camel

37. And the thigh of a she-camel flowed out of reverence
As the full moon splits open the illuminated sky

38. And like the bowing of the camel is the prostration of a flock dispersed
And a wild gazelle's intimacy though it flees

39. And the rock doves flew after him like
The spider when it crept

40. And the clouds that poured forth rain shaded him
With the spirit of a gentle wind, should it be vehement

41. And the day of Hunain when the people pelted with pebbles,
They retreated, blinded in both eyes

42. And at Badr a host of the angels of heaven
With Jibril under the two banners as general

43. And seventy leaders of his people in the well
Slain with the same number taken prisoner

44. And in his resolve to ravage Khaybar likewise
Quraydha was torn apart and Nadir overthrown

45. And Allah's Messenger journeyed by night
From Mecca to Jerusalem, and the Trustworthy Spirit accompanied him

46. And he traversed the seven heavens in one night
But after the seventh, to where did he ascend?

47. And there shone for him from the fluttering of light a radiance
From light, as a guide to the Messenger of good tidings

48. And he witnessed above the Throne every marvel
And that which the Gardens have adorned and decked

49. The Beloved conversed with the Beloved, so He singled Him out
And ennobled him through nearness, for he is deserving

50. And He said to him: “Ask Me to please you, for I
Am Able to do all things to please you”

51. So he who gives joy to the eye requested the Robe of Contentment
And it enveloped him in rapture and bliss

52. Say: In both abodes you are unparalleled, and none
Can rival you, whether elder or younger

53. Brides who will not be content save with you as spouse
For them the high dowries have been made insignificant

54. You ascended and rose above all but for you I lowered
Myself to allow Houris access to lofty palaces

55. Its composer is Abd al-Rahim, it is as though
It were stars illumining the heaven's atmosphere

56. Meanings have donned it in your praise, an exhilaration
Radiating light and diffusing fragrance

57. Say: You are foremost in both abodes in our ruin, so who
Follows you? One junior or senior

58. And may Allah bless you and single you out and choose you
For you are guidance for all the worlds and light

59. And may His good pleasure encompass Your Family and Companions
For around you, O Sun of the Age, they revolve
