1. The blood of the lover is shed over the ruins
And the sword of the magic of eyes is unsheathed

2. The eyebrows beneath the veil have taken me captive
I am their prisoner, wounded and killed

3. In my heart, chaste love and passion
Have taken a firm stand, confined and flowing free

4. No caravan told of Salma in Dhi Salm
Except I listened as tears flowed

5. Nor did she sing of the beautiful doe unless
It stirred me, rhymed prose and verse

6. So how can my heart find solace with song and refrain
When it harbors hopes and misguidance

7. And in the curtains the aloof one’s breath is musk
And her smile with honey is sweetened

8. Musk diffusing, lights shining
On the cheek's sheen, water strewn

9. She's the cure if I win her
No medicine for my malady is offered

10. Who of my censors in an arid desert
Finds its heights and depths obscured by night

11. So my feelings in my heart have not ceased
Though empty of heart, it is filled

12. O you who blame me for loving a people
When people in love are excused and blamed

13. If your passion is known by its traits
Then my passion is known and obscure

14. You yourself know life is but a loan
And my hopes for meadows are razed

15. If a friend is unkind or time is harsh
Your refuge is the night and messaging

16. Head to Zabid, watered by God from a land
Whose quarters are inhabited by God's friend

17. Visit Ahmad ibn Abi Bakr, his knowledge in religion
Reveals the ignorant's paucity

18. And prostrate before your Lord in thanks when you see Him
Align with the two hands whose reach is long

19. And descend into religion and life with their light
Hardship becomes easy, knots are unbound

20. Seek help from the son of Abi Bakr, you'll find a man
Who acts and God's command is carried out

21. The secret's secret, the kernel's kernel, from Mudar
Alluring, met by allure, night long

22. Finding comfort in generosity, being surrounds
As if enveloped in ample comfort

23. Lord of innate knowledge, nothing You composed
Was wrong, nor did study and learning compile it

24. It has divine portents interwoven
With light and transmitted and rational knowledge

25. So composed, structured and consistent
Evidence, reasoning and analysis

26. The sea of truth within religious law
Its ocean of meaning, beautiful and detailed

27. And how much scholarly evidence it has
Deciphering symbolism and composition

28. O You who when enjoyed protects me, turns
Misfortune from me, though in shackles

29. And who has with God's creation a station
And with his Creator merit and reverence

30. You are peerless, unique as the sun
With no likeness among the stars

31. Your hands are a sea of miracles and abundance
Not the Euphrates, Sihun or Nile

32. You exceeded the utmost of the eminent, singular
In superiority, beyond all thought

33. And you rose in the garb of pure monotheism, proud
Of the One Pride in Grandeur inheres

34. Intoxicated from the cup whose rapture's wind
Blew the secret of providence, lost

35. Is there any kindness from you my Master that reaches me?
From you what's intended, for in you goodness is hoped

36. Call me to good, for You are good and to fold in
Achievement, no delay in Your promise

37. And You know fortunes always change
Loyalty absolutely preferred

38. So intercede for my brothers and companions
If the people's state can perhaps be changed

39. And have mercy on prisoners, long held
As their debt to the faith remains unpaid

40. How many specters like the departed, when
You see them, you say "What idols are these?"

41. They have womenfolk, relatives, allies
And mothers and fathers like statues

42. So show them kindness, rectify what you can of their state
Your countenance in both houses is accepted

43. And the matter, if You resolve it, is quicker
Than the blink of an eye, without Your easing

44. The best good is the most beneficial to people, the swiftest
No good in any good whose delivery is delayed

45. I remain, O Full Moon of Existence, a brother to generosity
In honor, wearing garb of piety

46. And you remain in bounty ever green, however long
Leaves stir and revelation is recited
